Day 111

I was feeling a bit better today. I didn’t get as much done as I had planned but that’s okay because I could at least face the things I had to.

I woke up around 6.30 and knew I should just start the day. I spent about 40 minutes doing French. I’m definitely getting a handle on these new words. I think the biggest thing is that I need to pay attention to what things actually mean. There are a lot of little words in French that all sound the same but it’s the context of the sentence that will tell you which you should use. I need to pay attention.

Next on the agenda was a workout and shower. I noticed I had a message from someone I like hanging out with, so got through those things at record speed. I worked out so hard, I knocked 10 minutes off the time.

The next few hours I spent being social. It’s nice to spend time with people my own age. The only people I really meet are in the gaming world, so a lot of them are in their early 20s. While I don’t have issues hanging out with kids, it’s really refreshing to hang out with people my age. This was by far the best part of my day. I can’t help but smile when I think of the silly conversations we had.

The afternoon came quickly and I was ready to nap. Before I did that, I got a quick drawing done for the day. Today’s drawing topic; something geometric. When I first Googled this topic, I was struck with a lot of cool art works but most were for sale, so I didn’t feel comfortable about copying one of those.

I then ended up in a search for geometric mountains. I loved the concept and eventually did something like that off the top of my head. I’m sure it looks like something that has been created and sold a million times over.

There is one small area I have failed in but I’ve decided to not see it as a failure yet, just as a postponement. The Photo Challenge has been more of a challenge than I had expected. I have very limited things to work with and I can’t leave the house yet. I will pick up the challenge at this time next year.

A new Happy List has started today and I have made it a lot easier on myself. For the first few weeks I really wanted to push myself, because there are so many habits I need to form, which will make me happier. I’ve been glad to get as much done as I have been but I really just need the happies this week.

Today, I did happy.

Day 30: List your goals for the next 30 days

  • Be more active
  • Finish a knitting project
  • Watch more world movies
  • Write some recipes
  • Be more social
  • Paint and draw
  • Keep learning French
  • Get the house ready for wifey coming home

Thanks for reading my post. You’re a true hero. Plus, I think you look really great in that outfit. Have a top day!

Day 109

I said that I would take it easy today and that’s what I did. It wasn’t until after 8 pm when I decided to do today’s drawing challenge drawing and some French practice.

The French practice has gone better today than it has for the last few days. That was nice. I’ll spend at least the next week practising everything I have learned so far. Most things I can remember with the visual prompt but just trying to sprout things off the top of my head isn’t natural yet.

Today’s drawing challenge topic; a little village. I went straight to  30 Cool & Easy Things to Draw to Get Better at Art for my inspiration. I had remembered seeing some cute little houses. I put a bunch of different ones together and I call it a village.

All challenge drawings can be found here…

Tomorrow I’ll take it easy for the most part but will definitely be taking advantage of hubby…. for housework. We have a lot to do over the next few weeks. Busy, busy, busy.

30 Day Blog Challenge – All my answers will be posted here.

Day 29: List 10 people, living or dead, you would invite to dinner. Include the dinner menu.

I would invite…
Hubby, Wifey, Heston Blumenthal, Yotam Ottolenghi, Anthony Bourdain, Rhett McLaughlin, Link Neal, Paul Rudd, Eli Roth, Romain Duris .

The menu would be…
I love creating menus and I was actually excited about this part of the question until I decided that Heston would make a great dinner guest. The things that he creates are so wild and amazing that I feel like the things I’d come up with would be…not enough.

So, I would hope that Heston would prepare one of his wondrous feasts like the ‘seaside’ or a ‘garden’ or the tribute to ‘Wonka’.

Monday is nipping at our heels and for a lot of people that’s the start of a new week. I hope your new week is filled with smiles, achievements and something sweet.

Day 108

I woke up around 5.30 am and couldn’t get back to sleep. That wasn’t the start I wanted for the day. It’s taking every bit of energy I have at the moment to keep powering through life…and today I had barely recharged.

By 6.30 am I was crying my way through French. Things that should be easy to remember, aren’t. It made me question just how good I can be at learning when I’ve had memory problems for so long. Why don’t I know the difference between ‘ma’ and ‘mon’ or ‘sa’ and ‘son’. I mean, looking at those now, I feel like I should 100% know what they are and when to use them, NOPE.

Today’s drawing challenge topic; cupcakes. This is a delicious topic and one that shouldn’t be too hard. I’ve been eating cupcakes all my life. Cupcakes sure have gotten fancy and I first tried drawing a ‘mermaid cupcake’. The cupcake was too big and I had no room for the mermaid tail. I scrapped that and decided on some dark chocolate cupcakes with raspberries instead.

Next, I set up my paints and tried to get creative. I went for a simpler painting than the landscapes I’ve been tackling, at least, that’s what I originally thought. My inspiration can be found here.

While I enjoyed painting the plants, I really should have made them bigger. There wasn’t enough colour for me to keep the plants so small. I’m not happy with it. I’m going to try again next week and give it more of my own flair. (If i can find some flair.)

I tried.

That was about all I could muster up for the day. I’m feeling a little under the weather. A couple of days of taking it easy should help.

Day 28: What is something/someone you miss?

The thing I miss the most is my mum. She passed away not long after my 21st birthday. I needed her then and I still need her now. It hurts too much to even think about today.

Day 107

It was a good nights sleep but I really didn’t want to get up. It was another one of those hard mornings. I shook it off and got straight into drawing. Today’s drawing challenge topic; Cacti / Succulents. The idea of this draw was fun. I’ve been wanting to paint or draw a cactus for a while. I really don’t know why.

It took just over 30 minutes to draw. While there are so many amazing photos of real succulents and cacti, I just loved the styling of this photo of the crafted version.

All challenge drawings can be found here…
40 Day Drawing Challenge on Three Peas, One Pod

I finished the drawing just after 8.30 am and that meant it was time for a workout. I try and do the workout around the same time each day, somewhere between 8.30 – 9 am.

I started working out in the morning because I thought if I waited til the afternoon or night that I most likely wouldn’t want to do it and would just put off doing it. If it’s a morning task that I have to do before other things, I’ll get it done. It has worked and today’s workout was 5 minutes faster, even with a couple of extra reps. Go me.

After that I found a photo I’d like to try painting, drew a quick outline and then…. made lunch. I figured it made more sense to have lunch first, then I could work on the painting until it was done.

Once lunch was done I got distracted again and spent a couple of hours playing with a friend in WoW. It was the first time I had used voice chat with them. I was so nervous my whole body shivered. At first I thought I’d just got really cold but it was nerves. I’m always glad when I have conversation. I almost feel normal.

I gave up on painting for another day, packed up my paints and did my French lessons instead. I can’t believe how badly I did with the words. It’s like I’d never heard of them. I also feel like French has at least 15 different words for ‘my’. I guess that’s not the case but it feels that way. The long haul of learning is on for this set of words.

Day 27: Discuss a problem you have or had in the past.

When I was 19, I had a pretty bad gambling problem.

For as long as I could remember my parents loved to go to the local bowling club to play the poker machines. Soon as I turned 18, I could finally join them. Mum would give me money to play them. Sometimes I’d win, most times I’d lose. I loved the thrill of winning and was always hoping for the big one.

At 19, I started a new job and would get paid weekly. As soon as I was paid, I would fill the car up with petrol, so I could get to work for the week, then go to the closest club to play poker machines. Sometimes I would win but for the most part, I would go home a few hours later, with no money left for the week.

For years later, any time I had money, or sometimes when I didn’t, I would go and try to win. The main reason I stopped going was because of my agoraphobia.

Now that I’ve gotten older and now I own a house (that needs a lot of work) I feel like even if I could go out, that’s not what I’d want to do with my money. Although that big win is still alluring. I think it’s still a problem.

I hope you’re living your best life and I hope you’re having a problem free week. Happy Friday.

Day 106

I woke just before 6.30 am and decided to get up. My goal was to paint and I knew there’d be a number of things I’d need to get out of the way first.

I sat down at the computer, rubbed my eyes and read the BEST message ever…. wifey is coming home. HUZZAH!!! ^_^ There is only 34 days until she will be here. It’s going to be so much fun doing all my learning, plus arts and craft, with her. The happiness is real. I was even able to say; ‘Tu as un billet d’avion’ and ‘Tu vas a l’aeroport en voiture’. Pretty sure those are right.

Once my excitement calmed slightly, it was on to French lessons. I’m still learning the ‘family’ words. Every day more words seem to sink in. I did another 30 minutes today.

Then I flicked over to the world movies channel. A French movie, The Finishers, was just starting. It was an inspirational and heartfelt movie, which had hubby and I both in tears….and made hubby a little late for work.

Next it was onto my workout. My body has been feeling fatigued for over a week now. Some days are worse than others. Today I was really feeling the lack of energy in my muscles. I did my best and still got through the whole workout, even if there were many, many times when I wanted to stop.

Time was ticking away and it felt as if the painting dream was slipping through my fingers. Surely I could get the drawing for today done quickly and then I could finally paint. Today’s drawing challenge topic; funny creatures. Oh no! This is not something I’d be able to do quickly.

I Googled ‘funny creatures’ and found photos of animals making silly faces, animal morphs and things that might give me nightmares if I tried to draw them. Then I found a Pokemon picture that was titled ‘funny little creatures‘, so that’s the one I went with. It was a hard draw. I didn’t get the size right…on anything. I think it’s still readable as Pokemon.

It was now too late to start painting. So instead of feeling bad about not getting things done, I did a task off my Happy List. I napped. It’s nice to be able to treat myself to a nap instead of using it as a way to avoid depression. Tomorrow, I WILL paint. Fingers crossed.

Day 26: If you had 1 million dollars to spend, how would you spend it?

I’d take it to a casino and put it all on black!

Well, probably not. The only things I’m really interested in, that are big money items, would be to buy a house somewhere rural with room for veggie gardens, chickens and goats. I imagine that would take up a good portion of the money, getting that all set up. Goat pyjamas would have to be expensive.

Then a cruise. A world cruise or a European river cruise… or both.

Then with whatever is left over, I’d put it all on black.

It’s nice to have dreams and I love the fact my life dream is to have goats in pyjamas. What more could one want?

I hope you’re having a comfy pyjama kind of day.

Day 105

Last night I went to bed early. It was nice getting the extra sleep and it may have helped my morning. I didn’t feel the overwhelming dread of morning sunlight like normal. I sipped coffee and prepared a weekly meal plan and shopping list. I tried to get more veggies into this weeks plan.

Once hubby had left for work, I worked out. I was determined to get through it faster than normal and ignore any fatigue my body was feeling. It worked and I was 4 minutes faster.

Next I moved on to gardening updates on Three Peas, One Pod. We’re still in the midst of winter, so we’re really only planting what needs to be planted at this point. Hubby had some frangipani cuttings that were looking ready for soil. We also replanted our surprise succulent and I have started documenting our mystery citrus. I’m excited about following the journey of our plants.

I created new pages for the Family of Frangipani, Succulents and Mystery Citrus.

After that I did 30 minutes of French. It was a very quick 30 minutes and I didn’t want to stop. Some of the new ‘family’ words are sticking, some make no sense at all.

Today’s drawing challenge topic; Clouds. While I enjoy painting them I did not want to draw them. Even though I’ve now done it, I still don’t want to do it. I used this photo for inspiration. I’m glad this challenge is now behind us and I say to you Mr Clouds, NO, just no!

Round two of the gloves (I am having the WORST luck with knitting gloves) was the next thing on the agenda. I decided to do a small test knit to see if I could figure out the colour transition and I learned two things. One, I still don’t know what I’m doing. Two, I didn’t have the focus to do the simplest of knits. I’ll try again in a couple of days.

Day 25: Discuss someone who fascinates you and why?

I found it really difficult to pinpoint one person. I think humans in general are fascinating. There are so many creative, artistic, outgoing, intelligent, proud, damaged, deranged and dysfunctional people out there, each with a unique story. So I think that everyone is fascinating, I just haven’t heard their story.

I think tomorrow is a good day for painting. I’d love to paint more than once a week but it’s so very time consuming and I have lots of other learning on my plate. Oh well, as long as I’m improving, I’m improving.

Day 104

Hubby’s alarm sucker punched me into starting the day and I felt dazed. I had no idea how I was going to be the day. Things hurt, things had no energy and one of those things was my face. I did my usual morning scowl over a cup of coffee until I found the slightest bit of energy.

Then it was time for French. I decided to move onto a new topic; ‘Family’. I picked up a few of the words but mostly I just enjoyed knowing that I was learning something new. One goal for my Happy List this week is to spend longer practising French and what a great time to start doing that.

Today’s drawing challenge topic; A Cat. I picked the little version because it was adorable and you can’t stop me. I’m glad it was so cute because it was a hard draw. I got a little obsessed. I redid the face at least seven times. From a very faint outline, I added line after line, layering and smudging until I had something that resembled this little bundle of joy.

Next it was time to start a new knitting project. I was excited after the neatness of my last knit but still disappointed that I had used the wrong needles (or knitting sticks as I’d prefer to call them.) I was determined to get everything right on this pair of gloves for hubby. He wanted a pair in black and red, in honour of his favourite football team, the Essendon Bombers.

The ribbing went smoothly but because I was using black wool, I found it a little hard to see if it really did look good or not. Let’s just assume it did. Good. Got the first few rows of the body done, then changed colours to red. The switch over to the new colour went pretty good. I then knitted a couple more row and had my first real look at it.

UGH!!!!! The change over wasn’t smooth at all. I was hoping for a neat line across, instead it was just… a row of diamonds? triangles? arrows?. It was something I didn’t want. I tried to go back to there and see if I could do something to fix it. I couldn’t. I broke it. So that was two hours of knitting with nothing to show for it. I’ve adjusted the pattern (or what I like to call; recipe) and hopefully I’ll get a clean line on the next attempt.

Day 24: What is your favourite movie and why?

I’ve never really been a fan of superheroes and I have most definitely never found one that I’d want to be but at the moment I’m really loving Deadpool 2. It’s a sublime mix of action and comedy. I just love the rawness of Deadpool as a character. He’s edgy, he’s funny and his superhero power is kinda cool. His power isn’t the one I want though.

If I could be any superhero I would be Domino. Give me the luck, all the luck! A lot of the time I feel I am the curse. Not that I am cursed, that I AM the curse. So feeling the complete opposite of that would be incredible.

Tomorrow I will probably give the gloves another shot. I know I can get them right if I can just work out how to colour transition. If that doesn’t tickle my fancy, I’m sure there is another creative outlet that will.

Thanks for reading. I hope something tickles your fancy this week.

Day 102

Sundays have been a gaming day for me for about two years now. Until wifey got me playing WoW 7 years ago, I hadn’t really played a MMORPG before. It took a good five years of playing the game before I met the person I spend Sundays with. His schedule has changed for the next few weeks and I thought that would give me a free weekend or two. I was a little wrong.

I spent the day doing dungeons, just like I normally would, except this time I was with my guild group. It made the day so much more fun, even though they forced me to heal.

Shame I can’t use those same healing spells on hubby and myself. It seems we’ve been struck by some sort of head cold. YUCK!

This weeks Let’s do 52 – 52 Week Photography challenge is ‘Looking Down’. I thought it might mean to take a picture while looking down. Grass isn’t as adorable as my dog Homer, so I took a picture of him instead.

I zoomed in really close (which is why it’s a bit blurry) and let my camera follow him round the backyard and that’s when I caught him…. looking down.

During the afternoon I tried to draw. TRIED. Today’s drawing challenge topic; The sea with a beach house. I found a photo of the sea from the balcony of a beach house. I did the drawing pretty quickly which is why it’s looking a little rough around the edges. I enjoyed the challenge of a quick draw.

I was so incredibly zoned out all afternoon that when I did my French practice I finished it while barely even knowing I was doing it. I think that means that French was just second nature to me today. If I was a zombie, I’d be all over this French stuff by now.

Day 22: How have you changed over the past few years?

The most changes I’ve made have been in the last 3 months. I’m now trying to make my physical and mental health better, I’m trying to learn new skills and grow as a person, and most importantly I’m trying to be happier.

I’ve been flirting with the idea of being happier for a few years by making small life changes; like keeping the house tidier, not having as much sugar, eating vegetarian meals, trying to be a more calm person who doesn’t yell.

Another change is that I’m really craving being around people. For many years I’ve hidden away and not had conversation and interactions with people and I was okay with that. At least for the last year I’ve wanted to have friends again.

Hubby and I are stuffing ourselves with cold and flu tablets, hopefully that will keep whatever is lurking away. Hopefully we can have a productive day tomorrow.

A new week is starting and I hope it’s a wonderful mix of smiles, good deeds and sparkles for all.

Day 101

I woke up at 6.30 am and was determined to dive into my day with the lust and vigour of someone who enjoys mornings. Two hours later all I had managed to achieve was being awake. Hubby left for work and I decided to do the things.

I started with a workout. It was a nice hard workout and it got my heart beating fast. Muscles felt sore but everything else felt good for doing it.

Next was French. I had to have a little giggle to myself when I realised that I was learning another language and I’d now be able to avoid conversations in two languages. I will definitely need to visit France or somewhere that speaks French so I can point out a boy and cat eating pizza. The practice went pretty well, I think.

Today’s drawing challenge topic; triangles. I had seen a neat triangle pattern that I thought I could do and then add little doodles in each triangle. It took just over an hour.

I spent a couple of hours working on my beanie. I finished the body and now I’m trying to shape the top. Knitting two stitches together is my least favourite part of this whole knit. So close to being done though. Exciting!!

Day 21: What is one of your favourite TV shows and why?

Torchwood. I have watched this series more times than I can count. The lead character, Captain Jack Harkness, is divine. He’s the perfect mix of masculine and tenderness. People die in his arms and it looks like the most peaceful and reassuring thing that could ever happen. The show has got the right balance of aliens, action and bisexual men. It’s easy to get caught up in this fantasy.

Tomorrow I’ll start the day with a workout and then see where the morning coffee will lead us. No real plans at this point. I’ve been a bit unfocused the last few days. Eep.

Happy weekend.

Day 99

I woke up just before 6.30 am and while I wanted to turn over and go back to sleep, I knew it was time to get up and start things. My mission for the day was to paint, so I had to get a lot of things out of the way quickly. I’d settled on an over ambitious photo for my painting. I just loved it so much, I had to try.

I started with today’s drawing topic; patterns. I’d done a quick google search the night before and had picked a zebra stripes pattern. The sound of the pencil scratching on the paper was all that could be heard and soon I had some lovely stripes. Zebras are so wonderful. I used this photo as my reference.

Then hubby woke and made me a coffee. He’s nice like that. While he showered I got through my French practice. It was another good day of words.

Once that was done, hubby and I worked on a meal plan and shopping list for the week. Lots of yummy things coming up and very economical. I can’t wait to start sharing food ideas.

Next on the day menu was a workout. I’ve been pushing myself harder the last two days and I’m feeling it. Muscles are staying sore for longer but I know it’s a good thing. I think another month of this and I’ll be ready to add more time or replace the current workout with a harder one.

Finally it was time to paint. I decided to paint a photo of ‘Les Planche Des Belles Filles’. It’s where today’s Tour de France race will finish.

The reference photo is so amazing but I disliked myself just a little bit for picking such a hard one.

Progress photos can be found at…

That was all I stuffed into my day. It felt like a tasty feast of creative.

Day 19: What is your biggest regret in life?

My biggest regret is that I didn’t make the changes I’m making now much earlier in my life. In the time that hubby and I have been together, I could have finished a 2 year journey, seven times. It also would have been nice to make my parents proud. Now they’re gone, that’s something that is never going to happen.

Tomorrow is going to be a bit of a different day. Light on the creative and heavy on the gaming. The next three Sundays will be gaming free and filled with housework.
