Day 105

Last night I went to bed early. It was nice getting the extra sleep and it may have helped my morning. I didn’t feel the overwhelming dread of morning sunlight like normal. I sipped coffee and prepared a weekly meal plan and shopping list. I tried to get more veggies into this weeks plan.

Once hubby had left for work, I worked out. I was determined to get through it faster than normal and ignore any fatigue my body was feeling. It worked and I was 4 minutes faster.

Next I moved on to gardening updates on Three Peas, One Pod. We’re still in the midst of winter, so we’re really only planting what needs to be planted at this point. Hubby had some frangipani cuttings that were looking ready for soil. We also replanted our surprise succulent and I have started documenting our mystery citrus. I’m excited about following the journey of our plants.

I created new pages for the Family of Frangipani, Succulents and Mystery Citrus.

After that I did 30 minutes of French. It was a very quick 30 minutes and I didn’t want to stop. Some of the new ‘family’ words are sticking, some make no sense at all.

Today’s drawing challenge topic; Clouds. While I enjoy painting them I did not want to draw them. Even though I’ve now done it, I still don’t want to do it. I used this photo for inspiration. I’m glad this challenge is now behind us and I say to you Mr Clouds, NO, just no!

Round two of the gloves (I am having the WORST luck with knitting gloves) was the next thing on the agenda. I decided to do a small test knit to see if I could figure out the colour transition and I learned two things. One, I still don’t know what I’m doing. Two, I didn’t have the focus to do the simplest of knits. I’ll try again in a couple of days.

Day 25: Discuss someone who fascinates you and why?

I found it really difficult to pinpoint one person. I think humans in general are fascinating. There are so many creative, artistic, outgoing, intelligent, proud, damaged, deranged and dysfunctional people out there, each with a unique story. So I think that everyone is fascinating, I just haven’t heard their story.

I think tomorrow is a good day for painting. I’d love to paint more than once a week but it’s so very time consuming and I have lots of other learning on my plate. Oh well, as long as I’m improving, I’m improving.

Day 102

Sundays have been a gaming day for me for about two years now. Until wifey got me playing WoW 7 years ago, I hadn’t really played a MMORPG before. It took a good five years of playing the game before I met the person I spend Sundays with. His schedule has changed for the next few weeks and I thought that would give me a free weekend or two. I was a little wrong.

I spent the day doing dungeons, just like I normally would, except this time I was with my guild group. It made the day so much more fun, even though they forced me to heal.

Shame I can’t use those same healing spells on hubby and myself. It seems we’ve been struck by some sort of head cold. YUCK!

This weeks Let’s do 52 – 52 Week Photography challenge is ‘Looking Down’. I thought it might mean to take a picture while looking down. Grass isn’t as adorable as my dog Homer, so I took a picture of him instead.

I zoomed in really close (which is why it’s a bit blurry) and let my camera follow him round the backyard and that’s when I caught him…. looking down.

During the afternoon I tried to draw. TRIED. Today’s drawing challenge topic; The sea with a beach house. I found a photo of the sea from the balcony of a beach house. I did the drawing pretty quickly which is why it’s looking a little rough around the edges. I enjoyed the challenge of a quick draw.

I was so incredibly zoned out all afternoon that when I did my French practice I finished it while barely even knowing I was doing it. I think that means that French was just second nature to me today. If I was a zombie, I’d be all over this French stuff by now.

Day 22: How have you changed over the past few years?

The most changes I’ve made have been in the last 3 months. I’m now trying to make my physical and mental health better, I’m trying to learn new skills and grow as a person, and most importantly I’m trying to be happier.

I’ve been flirting with the idea of being happier for a few years by making small life changes; like keeping the house tidier, not having as much sugar, eating vegetarian meals, trying to be a more calm person who doesn’t yell.

Another change is that I’m really craving being around people. For many years I’ve hidden away and not had conversation and interactions with people and I was okay with that. At least for the last year I’ve wanted to have friends again.

Hubby and I are stuffing ourselves with cold and flu tablets, hopefully that will keep whatever is lurking away. Hopefully we can have a productive day tomorrow.

A new week is starting and I hope it’s a wonderful mix of smiles, good deeds and sparkles for all.

Day 96

Today was definitely another rest day.

I woke up just before 8 am and stared at a really strange animated movie on TV. I didn’t feel like much else but picked up my knitting and thought I’d knock out a few rows while I decide what to do with the day.

It was around 1.30 pm when hubby pointed out the day was half over. I was sort of shocked. It had only felt like a couple of hours had passed. I got a lot done on the beanie. I’ve only got about 15 rows left to do before I start on shaping the top of the hat.

By late afternoon I was ready for a nap. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve indulged in an afternoon nap and I loved every second of it.

Once being awake had reclaimed me I did a little French. I’ll spend the next week working on the ‘travel’ words and hopefully start on a new topic the following week.

Hubby finally planted the leek long after the sun had set. I still snapped a couple of quick pics. Fingers crossed it’ll grow big and strong. It’s done pretty good on the windowsill so far.

Day 16: What are your views on mainstream music

When I was younger I was heavily into rock and grunge, with a splash of pop. The pop music would have been the mainstream music of the time.

Now my music tastes have chilled a lot and I’m loving indie. In saying that, if I like a song, I like a song. There are songs that I adore that ride long and proud on the music charts and would be considered mainstream.

Overall, mainstream music really isn’t my thing but what makes it mainstream is that LOTS of people do enjoy it. If it puts a smile in your heart then I’m glad someone is making it.

A new week is about to start and I’m going to keep on with the workouts, creatives and learning. It sure is a nice way to live. If you’ve missed my drawings, check back tomorrow!

Happy creatives to all.

Day 84

Oh what a day! I don’t feel like I’ve stopped and it still keeps going. Having a full happy list doesn’t leave me much time but the feeling of achievement is real and it’s real good.

As soon as hubby left for work, I started my workout. I got through it pretty easy. One or two more weeks and I’ll have to add another 15 minutes. I think the biggest hurdle is that my brain wants to tell me that 45 minutes of exercise is a lot of time where I could be doing other things. I know that to reap the benefits of working out, I will need to increase it once or twice more.

Once my workout was done, I got straight to my writing. I only set myself a 20 minute goal and I like to get it out of the way early. It was another easy day, with free flowing words and a developing story line. I will need to do some editing soon, flesh out the characters a little more.

I was really happy with how my drawing of the Akaroa sidewalk went yesterday, I decided that today was the day to try and paint it.

The biggest issue I had was trying to create a ‘brown’ colour. I asked Mr Google and he gave me a number of suggestions, that when tried, all looked grey. In the end I mixed gold and black. It seems like an inconsistent way to get brown but for this painting it has worked nicely.

For the progress shots; Sidewalk, Akaroa, New Zealand

After hours of painting, I got to a little housework and an early French revision.

Day 4: Discuss your views on religion?

I believe there is a God. I think each religion has part of the story but no one has put that story together yet, which is okay, because God loves us anyway.

I think that earth is both ‘heaven’ and ‘hell’. How you live your life will determine how you spend your next life. If you live a good and helpful life, you will be born into a ‘heaven’ situation. If you live a bad life, you come back into a ‘hell’ situation.

The spirit world exists and it’s just people waiting for their return to earth. Some will never make it back to earth. If they are good they’re angels. If they’re mischievous or troublemakers, they’re demons.

I grew up a Catholic and spent a number of years as a born-again Christian, but neither gave me the same peace as the above thought has. I know that when the time comes, my God will welcome me home.

I started work on my gloves last night, only a couple of rows, so I’ll try and get a few more added to it before bed. I’m really looking forward to a long nights sleep.

Day 62

Hubby and I had a terrible nights sleep. Around 3 am there was a huge thunder rumbling that made the windows shake and pulled me from a deep sleep. Then came the rain and more rain and then some more rain.

Normally I enjoy sleeping with the sound of trickling rain but this was a downpour and we have a few holes in the roof. If a downpour comes down in the wrong direction, our living room ceiling gets wet and drips through a hole that my dad must have drilled to release water. We were both worried that this extreme weather would bring down the ceiling.

Every time I dozed off, I quickly woke, praying that the rain would ease down. It finally did and I finally got back to sleep, poor hubby didn’t.

The morning felt extra hard and extra cold but nothing a workout and shower couldn’t fix. Even the workout felt a little harder than it has been. I almost gave up half way through but that’s just not who I am now. Go, go, go!

I finally got my paints out today and went about painting a flamingo. It was really dark in the living room, so I illuminated the table with a flashlight on my phone. I spent a little while drawing a rough picture, then started painting. I wasn’t entirely sure how to layer the colours but it’s pink and resembles a flamingo. I think that means I win. The only thing it was missing is some detailed feathers.

I also did 30 minutes of French. That’s now 7 days of learning French. It’s pretty exciting. I’ve been wanting to do this since I was a teenager. I had a little trouble remembering some of the greetings today but I think that’s just because I’m tired.

I didn’t get to knitting today but the weather has reminded me that I really should. My last knitting practice is sitting on the table under my wrists as I type, keeping them warm. I need to learn how to make gloves.

Day 29: What are your goals for the next 30 days.

More of everything that I have been doing.
1. Double daily workout
2. Paint
3. Knit from a pattern and finish it
4. Draw
5. Keep learning French
6. Add more to my short story
7. Create recipes for a food blog
8. Get more sleep
9. Don’t leave photo challenge pics to the last minute
10. Be more social online

I think 10 dedicated goals is enough. Of course that won’t stop me from achieving other things.

Good luck to all those starting a project this week. May the creative flow through you and create smiles in all you do.

Day 47

Today was a chill day and being Music Monday, I have added a fantastic chill playlist for your listening pleasure.

Top 10 Songs You Need To Hear
1. Tones and I – Dance Monkey
2. Girl in Red – Dead Girl in the Pool
3. Lana Del Rey – Doin Time (Sublime Cover)
4. Vampire Weekend – Sympathy
5. Jungle – Casio
6. Karen O & Danger Mouse – Turn the Light
7. Mannequin Pussy – Drunk II
8. Alfie Templeman – Stop Thinking (About Me)
9. Andrew Bird – Sisyphus
10. Alaskalaska – Bees

I didn’t workout today but I’ll get back to the double tomorrow. My body has really enjoyed the rest but my mind is really looking forward to getting the job done.

While hubby was making lunch, I was trying to take some photos of a bee hoping between the dandelions on the back lawn. I was pleasantly surprised by some of the captures. It made me excited about all the fun things I’ll have to capture when we have a full herb and veggie garden.

The long awaited shadow shot for the Let’s Do 52 – 52 Week Photo Challenge. I looked up some ‘shadow’ photos on Google because a week of trying to be creative on my own had not worked as planned. I quickly found an image and went about recreating it. See the original  here . I used a simple egg ring and one of my favourite cookbooks; The Backyard Barbecue Cookbook. Published by Murdoch Books. All challenge photos can be found on Three Peas, One Pod.

Hubby is back to work tomorrow and I’ll get back to my arts and crafting this week. I’d also like to bake something. I’ve never really been into baking but I’ve been finding so many yummy things, it’s time to learn a new skill.

Here’s Day 14 of the writing challenge. If you’d like to see the full challenge details, click here. All 30 days will be posted here.

Day 14: Post your favourite movies that you never get tired of watching.

  1. Finding Nemo. It’s just adorable and not only do I love watching it, I used to fall asleep to it almost every night. Once it would finish playing, there’d be the sounds of bubbles on the DVD menu. Very relaxing.
  2. I Love You, Man. The main character, played by Paul Rudd, is so socially awkward. I can relate to it. Makes me laugh every time.
  3. Deadpool 1 & 2. It’s Deadpool. I really don’t need to explain this one.
  4. Warcraft. It’s my secret love. I don’t even know how many times I’ve watched it. I’ve literally had it on repeat for hours though, while playing WoW.
  5. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. Baby Groot makes this movie sublime. The opening sequence has got to be one of the most amazing movie openings…ever! Check it out here.

Day 46

It’s Sunday which means it’s a rest day and I know I earned it this week. I’ve stayed on top of meditating, working out and getting some creative stuff done.

The day was mostly filled with gaming and delicious meals. Hubby and I also planted the celery (he planted, I photoed) that we had been growing in water on the kitchen windowsill. All new plants I grow seem to be called ‘Baby Groot’, I hope our Baby Groot #2 starts to grow big and strong. Check out the progress here.

Tomorrow is the last day for me to snap a ‘shadow’ picture. Wish me luck.

Here’s Day 13 of the writing challenge. If you’d like to see the full challenge details, click here. All 30 days will be posted here.

Day 13: What are you excited about?

This is an easy one. Wifey is talking about her next trip down under being for Halloween and Christmas. Although we don’t really celebrate Halloween, it’d be great to get dressed up and eat candy. We’ve had two Christmases with wifey here and each time has been perfect. Bring on the cheese platter! The best way to celebrate a summer Xmas.

Day 34

Today has been a productive day. Hubby and I started the day with meditation. Our (10 year old) puppy, Homer, was playful and made it hard to focus but we did it!

Then I doubled my workout. As I got through the first part, I questioned if I really did want to go on with more. I thought about doing it later in the day or just starting next week. I powered through and I sure am feeling it. I’m aching in place I’ve never ached. I know it’s a good kind of ache though. Of course I will workout tomorrow but at this point, the idea is unpleasant at best.

After that I started on the Let’s do 52 – 52 Week Photography Project. I will be tracking the project on Three Peas, One Pod and on Flickr.

Let's Do 52 - May 7: Flowers
Let’s Do 52 – May 7: Flowers

I did a few other creative type things like fixing the Three Peas blog and tried knitting again. Not making much progress, although if you need someone to cast on for you, I’m your gal! There was also some singing in there.

The rest of the day was housework and a nap. I was torn about napping. I know that I should be using the daylight hours for productive things but at the same time, I need to rest my body so I can keep up being productive. I’ll try and survive the whole day tomorrow, like an adult.

A garden project was started yesterday. We’re trying to grow celery from a cutting. Soon as it starts to sprout, I’ll start blogging about it. Let’s hope we see some shoots soon.

I said I’d start the 30 day writing challenge today, so here it is. If you’d like to see the full challenge details, click here. All 30 days will be posted here.
