Day 102

Sundays have been a gaming day for me for about two years now. Until wifey got me playing WoW 7 years ago, I hadn’t really played a MMORPG before. It took a good five years of playing the game before I met the person I spend Sundays with. His schedule has changed for the next few weeks and I thought that would give me a free weekend or two. I was a little wrong.

I spent the day doing dungeons, just like I normally would, except this time I was with my guild group. It made the day so much more fun, even though they forced me to heal.

Shame I can’t use those same healing spells on hubby and myself. It seems we’ve been struck by some sort of head cold. YUCK!

This weeks Let’s do 52 – 52 Week Photography challenge is ‘Looking Down’. I thought it might mean to take a picture while looking down. Grass isn’t as adorable as my dog Homer, so I took a picture of him instead.

I zoomed in really close (which is why it’s a bit blurry) and let my camera follow him round the backyard and that’s when I caught him…. looking down.

During the afternoon I tried to draw. TRIED. Today’s drawing challenge topic; The sea with a beach house. I found a photo of the sea from the balcony of a beach house. I did the drawing pretty quickly which is why it’s looking a little rough around the edges. I enjoyed the challenge of a quick draw.

I was so incredibly zoned out all afternoon that when I did my French practice I finished it while barely even knowing I was doing it. I think that means that French was just second nature to me today. If I was a zombie, I’d be all over this French stuff by now.

Day 22: How have you changed over the past few years?

The most changes I’ve made have been in the last 3 months. I’m now trying to make my physical and mental health better, I’m trying to learn new skills and grow as a person, and most importantly I’m trying to be happier.

I’ve been flirting with the idea of being happier for a few years by making small life changes; like keeping the house tidier, not having as much sugar, eating vegetarian meals, trying to be a more calm person who doesn’t yell.

Another change is that I’m really craving being around people. For many years I’ve hidden away and not had conversation and interactions with people and I was okay with that. At least for the last year I’ve wanted to have friends again.

Hubby and I are stuffing ourselves with cold and flu tablets, hopefully that will keep whatever is lurking away. Hopefully we can have a productive day tomorrow.

A new week is starting and I hope it’s a wonderful mix of smiles, good deeds and sparkles for all.

Day 94

I jumped out of bed and got straight to French. I’m feeling much better about the travel words. I seem to take about 4 days for things to really get in my brain. Something I need to remember when I learn the next set of words so I don’t get so frustrated.

Inspired by getting to French so quickly, I decided to jump into all my other morning tasks quickly. I worked out, I showered and then I hit a wall. Everything after that seemed to drag along at a snails pace in an unproductive way. My morning enthusiasm waned into a zombie-like state.

I’ve spent all week taking ‘looking up’ photos of the sun for the Let’s do 52 – 52 Week Photography  challenge. There have been pictures of the sun on its own, through cloud, through trees, centred and barely in the shot. There were a lot of shots I really liked but this one was my favourite. I love the contrast of dark and light with the little colourful light flares.

For today’s drawing challenge topic; some flowers. This was supposed to be a fun draw for me but it wasn’t. I had been looking forward to it and decided to work in colour. The pencils and paper did not want to work together. I could barely see the colours and the paper got pretty beat up. I haven’t felt creative enough to redo it, so, here it is. Better luck next time.

I did give the drawing a little enhance in GIMP so you could actually see the flowers. They just didn’t stand up on their own sadly. This has prompted a shopping trip for pencils and good paper.

All challenge drawings can be found here…
40 Day Drawing Challenge on Three Peas, One Pod

The only other creative (and it’s not feeling very creative) was my 20 minutes of writing. I’m not technically writing, I’m editing and rewriting but it really needs to be done before I venture further into this tale.

30 Day Blog Challenge – All my answers will be posted here.

Day 14: What is your earliest memory?

It was around 6.30 am and I thought… ‘Why am I awake at 6.30 am.’

For real though, I find this question difficult to answer because I don’t remember a lot from when I was young. I’ve also had short term memory problems since my mum passed away when I was 21, so I feel like I’m in a constant fog of confusion and uncertainty.

I find it hard to tell if it’s a memory of a situation I’ve been in, if it’s a memory of a photo or if it’s something I’ve completely made up.

Tomorrow is a rest day. My workout body is looking forward to it. My workout brain is not. I don’t want to say it but I think I enjoy working out. What a strange world I now live in.

Day 78

Hubby left for work at 6.30 am and that’s when I crawled out of bed. I was hoping to spend a little time with wifey before I got about my day but she was napping. I fiddled with a few mindless mobile games and felt the sads creeping upon me. Instead of wallowing in it, I got to my workout and really pushed myself, squeezed muscles and made sure that if it could be worked out, that it was.

Once that was done I thought I’d take advantage of the nice morning light and get some painting done. I set up my paints, sat down to leave wifey a message and got distracted with singing. I sang a few songs and enjoyed the music so much I made an Indie playlist that I could listen to while painting.

Check out my Indie Vibes playlist on Youtube.

From about 10 am until 5 pm, I was painting. The painting was based on a picture I took many years ago when we were in Akaroa, New Zealand. We were on a 14 day cruise around New Zealand and that is one of the shore days. It’s one of my favourite shore days. You have to take a little boat from the cruise ship to the shore. There is also an amazing restaurant there called Bully Hayes. I hope to get back there one day.

I’ll post all the painting stuff tomorrow. I finished so late it was impossible to get a good photo with the light I have available. Hopefully I can get a great shot of it tomorrow. I’m proud of this painting.

I do have something to share today, my ‘out a window’ photo for this weeks  Let’s Do 52 – 52 Week Photo Challenge. Being that I don’t leave the house, what windows I have to get a shot out of are limited. The backyard doesn’t have a lot in it to take pictures, the front yard has even less. I didn’t think a picture of the neighbours house was really worthy either.

Yesterday, we had a visit from a White-faced Heron. They like to forage for bugs. It’s not the first time we’ve seen one of these birds. He was prowling around the greenhouse when I captured the picture through the back window.

It was so hard to get the shot. I had limited room, had to zoom in as far as my camera would go and then of course, the heron had to be in the shot. I snapped a handful of shots but this one was my favourite. It’s kind of mysterious and the shadows are lovely.

Seeing most of my day was taken up with painting, I didn’t get much else done. I can say that I did do some drawing, not a lot but it happened. I practised drawing the sailboat before trying to paint it.

I did get in 30 minutes of French. I finished the ‘people’ topic. I’m not sure I’m ready to move on to new things, so looks like it’ll be back to the practice level for a couple of days. I did remember more words today and I think I’ve worked out when to use ‘a’ or ‘en’ (the French word for ‘in’, just missing an accent or two). Practice, practice, practice.

I didn’t get round to writing practice today, so I’m going to do a bit of a ‘get to know me’ type questionnaire. You can find the ‘Dig a Little Deeper’ questions here. I’ll do half tonight and half another night this week. If you’re game, enjoy.

  1. Do you prefer writing with black or blue pen? I’ll say blue pen only because I’m using a blue pen at the moment and I like it.
  2. Would you prefer to live in the country or the city? In the country, for sure. If I’m going to be surrounded by something, I’d prefer it to be peace and quiet, nature and stars.
  3. If you could learn a new skill, what would it be? I’m learning lots of new things already, so I’m not sure what the next one would or should be, yet.
  4. Do you drink your tea or coffee with sugar? I drink coffee with sugar.
  5. Do you prefer baths or showers? I’d say showers. It’s nice to wash the day away, instead of soaking in it. Plus, I’ve never lived anywhere with a bath that accommodates my long legs.
  6. If you could be a mythical creature, which would you choose? Mermaid. I love the ocean. I feel like it would be such a peaceful life.
  7. Do you prefer reading paper or electronic books? I don’t really like reading. I have the attention span of a flea with a bad attention span. Although, I like when wifey reads me books and she does it on an electronic device, sooooo…. electronic.
  8. What is your favourite item of clothing? Black or dark blue skinny jeans. It took me many years to want to wear them and now you can’t get me out of them.
  9. Do you like your name? Would you ever change it? I don’t like my name. I will most likely change it.
  10. Who is a mentor to you? I don’t have a mentor.
  11. Would you ever want to be famous? If so, what for? I’ve always wanted to be famous. A famous singer or photographer. I’d settle for any sort of creative medium fame.
  12. Are you a restless sleeper? Sometimes. I’m definitely more restless when I’m in pain.
  13. Do you consider yourself a romantic? I’m unconventionally romantic.
  14. Which element best represents you? Definitely one of them.
  15. Who do you want to be closer to? Wifey. She lives too far away.
  16. Do you miss someone at the moment? I always miss my mum.
  17. Tell us about an early childhood memory. I really don’t remember a lot of my childhood. I’ve manged to block most of it out because of all the bad things I lived through. The few fleeting memories I have, aren’t really that nice. Others are just memories of photos. I really don’t have an answer.
  18. What is the strangest thing you have eaten? I know it’s not that wild but when I was young, I used to love eating Lamb’s Fry. (Lamb livers.) My granddad would fry them and put them in a bacon gravy. I would eat them cold on a sandwich, with tomato sauce.
  19. What can you see outside your bedroom window? The neighbours house across the street. I wish we had some trees or a window box with flowers.
  20. What are you most thankful for? I’m thankful that I own my own home.
  21. Do you like spicy food? Yes but not too spicy.
  22. Have you ever met someone famous? Low level famous, definitely. I got Arj Barker to sign my boobs one year at the Melbourne Comedy Festival.
  23. Do you keep a diary or journal? I feel like this blog is a diary, so yes.
  24. Do you prefer a pen or pencil? I prefer a keyboard. Whoever wrote these questions has a strange obsession with old fashioned writing tools.
  25. What is your star sign? Cancer

If you read all this, you are my favourite! I hope you have the best week.

Day 75

It was a late start today but the sleep in was very needed. Hubby and I were pretty bad at getting to bed on time during the week. I blame cricket. I don’t watch it but hubby does and you don’t really have to twist my arm to stay up. This week will be different, I just know it.

The plan was to get the kitchen finished but we were missing a couple of key cleaning supplies. So we went about doing normal housework instead.

For this week’s Let’s Do 52 – 52 Week Photo Challenge picture, I had to snap something ‘close up’. I decided to use the freshly knit bunny, that I made for my dog Homer, as the focus of this shot. I set up the cute little scene outside and got snap happy. Special thanks to hubby for holding some of the flowers.

For more information on the bunny, the tutorial I followed and Homers reaction to his new toy, check out Little Brown Bunny on Three Peas, One Pod.

We have been growing two leeks on the windowsill. One has been growing for about three weeks, the other just over a week. Today it was time to plant the first one. The second one will probably be ready for soil next weekend. It’s not the best time of year for planting new things but we wanted to try anyway.

I was thrilled to see a comment on yesterday’s post from Eilidh Horder, in French. The best part was, I knew what it meant. What an encouraging feeling before diving into another French lesson. I did about 30 minutes, working on the ‘people’ subject. I still get a lot wrong but a number of the words are already stuck in my brain after two days. Woo. I’m feeling encouraged.

Lastly, here are some tasty tunes to fill your face with good feels. Enjoy!

Day 68

Today was a rest day and it sure was an enjoyable rest day. I know the week wasn’t ‘doing’ busy but it was pretty emotionally draining, then yesterday was a long day of cleaning. So being able to just sit and feel good doing nothing was… fantastic.

I spent the morning in WoW with some friends doing dungeons. We had a blast and lots of laughs. Then I spent some time playing WoW with wifey and it was lots of fun. She is the best at everything. I cannot complain.

The rest of the afternoon was filled with zombie-like staring and some occasional groans. I’m guessing the extra house work has made some of my chronic pain issues flair up again. I can’t remember the last time it was this painful.

Late afternoon, hubby and I got our French revision done while lasagne was baking in the oven. This has got to be one of my favourite meals. It’s made with a spaghetti sauce packed full of veggies and slow cooked for 4 hours. I came up with the recipe myself and it works perfectly every time.

I started working on a knit pattern. I finally got past the cast on row. I did the first three rows with a knit one, purl one stitch. Each row from now is one purl row, one knit row until it’s the right size. There are a couple of little mistakes but I think it’s worth completing. I will most likely work on that tomorrow.

Now, it’s time to get real about the weekly photo challenge. I have two choices when it comes to the photo challenge. I either throw my hands in the air and give up OR I can very loosely relate a picture to the topic just so that I can keep going. I’m going with that option because it feels a bit better.

“It’s art. It doesn’t have to make sense” – Matilda Collins

For this week’s Let’s Do 52 – 52 Week Photo Challenge picture, a photo of last nights dinner.

I have very loosely related this to the topic ‘in the corner’.

Enjoy this very vibrant bowl of Indonesian inspired Chicken, Vegetables and Noodles in the corner of the photo.

To finish today’s post, let’s get our song on. Enjoy the following songs, hand picked for your listening pleasure.

Day 61

After a lovely sleep in, the strangest thing happened this morning. I was fiddling with the short multi-coloured scarf I finished knitting, thinking that I might be able to turn it into a slipper. I sat with it wrapped around my foot, folding and scrunching and pulling at it until it somewhat resembled footwear. I was getting so close to turning it into something, I had to get the safety pins to hold it together.

I went to the little sowing kit we keep in an old box of chocolates. I pushed a few things aside and didn’t find the safety pins BUT I did find my locket and wedding ring! I wasn’t expecting them to be in there, especially because I thought I’d looked in there when I first lost them. They weren’t lost after all, they were just at the other side of the room.

Full-sized picture on Flickr.

I’m so glad I found the locket in time for this weeks Let’s Do 52 – 52 Week Photo Challenge picture. I had to capture something ‘old’, this locket is definitely old and laced with history and memories. The picture itself isn’t very creative or interesting but the locket is so amazing I don’t think that matters.

My mum bought this locket sometime in the 70s. She placed a picture of herself in the locket and a lock of her hair and gave it to her mum (my grandma.) The locket returned to me after my mum and my grandma had passed away, which is why it’s so important to me. It’s a heartfelt reminder of the two most amazing women that made my life brighter.

At the point of writing this, I haven’t done French lessons today but hopefully I can get that in after I post.

The new week is about to begin and there are lots of things on my to do list. The best way to get through a to do list, is with a great play list. I hope you enjoy the tunes.

  2. Goats in pyjamas.
  3. Good Mythical Morning – The Safest Way to Walk.
  4. A good comedy movie.
  5. Washing machine explained. See the below picture.

Day 52

I slept in today. It was a forced sleep in. No matter how many times my body prodded me to wake up, I simply turned over and dozed back off. I got up a little before hubby left and got about my day.

I did my double workout, with the maximum amount of slumping in between sets. I’m really looking forward to a rest day tomorrow.

See the full-sized image on Flickr

After that I took a picture for the Let’s Do 52 – 52 Week Photo Challenge. This week I had to capture something ‘scattered’. Seeing I wasn’t going to take a picture of my brain, I was inspired by one nights dinner;  Indonesian Sticky Mince & Rice. I scattered some rice over the table, grabbed a bowl and snapped this picture. I love the vibrant red of the chilli. Yum!

I spent the rest of the afternoon practising knitting. I worked with two colours. I did 5 rows in white, then 5 in yellow and repeated that a few times. The last colour block felt really good and smooth…and looked that way too. I’m going to add some more to it tomorrow. This video by Productive Life showed me How To Knit A Multi-Colours Scarf.

Here’s Day 19 of the writing challenge. If you’d like to see the full challenge details, click here. All 30 days will be posted here.

Day 19: Discuss your first love.

When we met, he had just lost his nephew on Christmas Eve. I was a pleasant distraction for him. I made the hurty bits hurt less. Once he stopped being sad, he stopped needing me. That’s when it slowly started to change.

Meanwhile, I had fallen head over heels and I did whatever I could to make sure we spent time together.

We were together a year, laughing, loving and enjoying each other. Then it was over. He had moved on to someone else and I was heartbroken.

Day 47

Today was a chill day and being Music Monday, I have added a fantastic chill playlist for your listening pleasure.

Top 10 Songs You Need To Hear
1. Tones and I – Dance Monkey
2. Girl in Red – Dead Girl in the Pool
3. Lana Del Rey – Doin Time (Sublime Cover)
4. Vampire Weekend – Sympathy
5. Jungle – Casio
6. Karen O & Danger Mouse – Turn the Light
7. Mannequin Pussy – Drunk II
8. Alfie Templeman – Stop Thinking (About Me)
9. Andrew Bird – Sisyphus
10. Alaskalaska – Bees

I didn’t workout today but I’ll get back to the double tomorrow. My body has really enjoyed the rest but my mind is really looking forward to getting the job done.

While hubby was making lunch, I was trying to take some photos of a bee hoping between the dandelions on the back lawn. I was pleasantly surprised by some of the captures. It made me excited about all the fun things I’ll have to capture when we have a full herb and veggie garden.

The long awaited shadow shot for the Let’s Do 52 – 52 Week Photo Challenge. I looked up some ‘shadow’ photos on Google because a week of trying to be creative on my own had not worked as planned. I quickly found an image and went about recreating it. See the original  here . I used a simple egg ring and one of my favourite cookbooks; The Backyard Barbecue Cookbook. Published by Murdoch Books. All challenge photos can be found on Three Peas, One Pod.

Hubby is back to work tomorrow and I’ll get back to my arts and crafting this week. I’d also like to bake something. I’ve never really been into baking but I’ve been finding so many yummy things, it’s time to learn a new skill.

Here’s Day 14 of the writing challenge. If you’d like to see the full challenge details, click here. All 30 days will be posted here.

Day 14: Post your favourite movies that you never get tired of watching.

  1. Finding Nemo. It’s just adorable and not only do I love watching it, I used to fall asleep to it almost every night. Once it would finish playing, there’d be the sounds of bubbles on the DVD menu. Very relaxing.
  2. I Love You, Man. The main character, played by Paul Rudd, is so socially awkward. I can relate to it. Makes me laugh every time.
  3. Deadpool 1 & 2. It’s Deadpool. I really don’t need to explain this one.
  4. Warcraft. It’s my secret love. I don’t even know how many times I’ve watched it. I’ve literally had it on repeat for hours though, while playing WoW.
  5. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. Baby Groot makes this movie sublime. The opening sequence has got to be one of the most amazing movie openings…ever! Check it out here.

Day 34

Today has been a productive day. Hubby and I started the day with meditation. Our (10 year old) puppy, Homer, was playful and made it hard to focus but we did it!

Then I doubled my workout. As I got through the first part, I questioned if I really did want to go on with more. I thought about doing it later in the day or just starting next week. I powered through and I sure am feeling it. I’m aching in place I’ve never ached. I know it’s a good kind of ache though. Of course I will workout tomorrow but at this point, the idea is unpleasant at best.

After that I started on the Let’s do 52 – 52 Week Photography Project. I will be tracking the project on Three Peas, One Pod and on Flickr.

Let's Do 52 - May 7: Flowers
Let’s Do 52 – May 7: Flowers

I did a few other creative type things like fixing the Three Peas blog and tried knitting again. Not making much progress, although if you need someone to cast on for you, I’m your gal! There was also some singing in there.

The rest of the day was housework and a nap. I was torn about napping. I know that I should be using the daylight hours for productive things but at the same time, I need to rest my body so I can keep up being productive. I’ll try and survive the whole day tomorrow, like an adult.

A garden project was started yesterday. We’re trying to grow celery from a cutting. Soon as it starts to sprout, I’ll start blogging about it. Let’s hope we see some shoots soon.

I said I’d start the 30 day writing challenge today, so here it is. If you’d like to see the full challenge details, click here. All 30 days will be posted here.

Day 1: List 10 things that make you really happy

  1. Hubby and Wifey
  2. My dog, Homer
  3. A hearty home cooked meal
  4. Music
  5. Being creative
  6. Spending time with good people
  7. Cruising on the ocean
  8. Photography
  9. Working out
  10. Helping, supporting, encouraging people

Feels like it was a big day. A big satisfying day. Cheers to the next one.

Day 28

It was another brilliant morning. I got my workout done first. Pushed myself a little harder than normal and I’ve been feeling it all day. It’s been a nice ache compared to the every day aches. Then, I spent forever in the kitchen cleaning. I definitely need to find an easier way to clean older baking pans.

While I didn’t feel down by the afternoon, I was feeling tired. I think I’ve been starting to feel a bit stressed about my progress and haven’t been sleeping the best. I napped. It was glorious.

Tomorrow I’m going to do some research on meditation and try and find a fun every day photo challenge type… thing!
