Even though I went to bed early last night, I really didn’t want to get up this morning. I woke just before 7 am and tried to go back to sleep but with everyone waking up it wasn’t going to happen.
I quickly got onto the last Inktober 2019 prompt; 31. Ripe. After a few image searches I thought a ripe fruit would work. Seeing it’s Halloween I went with a carved pumpkin. If it’s not ripe yet… it will be.
That is Inktober all done. *drops the ink pen* I know I didn’t adhere to one sketch a day but I’m still proud of myself for doing all the prompts. It’s been a lot of fun working with ink and definitely one I will be practising. If you participated in Inktober I hope you had a glorious time and learned some new things.
The Halloween ideas we had didn’t really go to plan. The scary movies we wanted to watch weren’t available for viewing in Australia on wifey’s Netflix and Amazon. The special treats I ordered haven’t even been sent.
On the bright side we had a delicious dinner of cheese, antipasto and crackers. We finished off the meal with Lindt chocolate truffles (I’m sure it was inspired by my Lindt ink sketch) and vampire fancies; little cakes covered in red fondant icing.
It was a really relaxed and enjoyable day. I hope your day has been relaxed and enjoyable too. Happy Halloween.
It was a slow start to the day. A very slow start.
Yesterday I was excited about the idea of creating art for myself instead of following a prompt. Today it felt completely overwhelming and scary, with a hint of confusing. Luckily I had found a photo of a row of colourful houses in Cartagena, Colombia that I wanted to try. I tried.
I also did the Inktober 2019 prompt; 30. Catch. I was tempted to do something involving hands. I like sketching hands. I went to Unsplash for inspiration and stumbled upon a spiderweb. I got caught up in its beauty and used that as my reference.
I did a few French practice runs. It was another good day. I remembered lots of things that I haven’t had to say for a while. I can’t imagine I’ll want to be learning too much next week, so the practice will continue.
Tomorrow I’ll do the last day of Inktober and that’s about it. Departure day is looming closer and I want to do things with wifey that will help her relax.
Homer dog woke me up about 10 minutes before hubby’s alarm would have gone off. I dragged myself out of bed and started the day. I pulled out my sketch pad to work on an Inktober prompt. Eight attempts and a pile of eraser shavings in my lap later, I still had nothing. So I moved on.
I thought it was about time I did the Doodlewash – October 2019 prompt; 15. Unicorn. I had done this sketch a few days ago but was a bit sheepish about what colours to use. I referenced this fat unicorn photo. I made the cake a cupcake and did what I felt were unicorn-y colours.
The unicorn is my last prompt for the Doodlewash – October 2019 challenge. I only managed to do half the prompts. With a new month about to begin I’d like to start focusing on some art for myself. I will focus on pop art, landscapes and learning to draw humans. I have lots of ideas and I’m excited at what I’ll create.
I am going to finish the Inktober 2019 event. I did the prompt; 28. Ride. It took a number of attempts at various carnival rides and vehicles before I settled on a hot air balloon. This was my reference.
Then I worked on the prompt; 29. Injured. I did a search on Pixabay with the word injured and was inspired by the least gruesome thing; a teddy bear. I didn’t copy the reference and made my own bandaged bear.
Once I’d put the pens down, wifey and I did housework. I thought today would be more chill, so I’m kinda impressed at how much we got done today.
While hubby and wifey went grocery shopping I did some singing. Then spent a little time doing some rough sketches. Today has been a creative day.
I hope your day has been filled with sunshine, sparkles and a big heaping of creativity. Have fun tomorrow.
Today was a pretty chill day. Wifey and I spent most of the day playing WoW and having fun together. Hubby pottered around fixing the taps and a couple of other odd jobs.
By late afternoon I decided to do a quick sketch for the Inktober 2019 prompt; 27. Coat. I wanted to do something you would ‘coat’ with paint, so I found a cute pop art-ish nail polish reference and created my version in about 10 minutes. Once Inktober is over I’ll spend more time working on pop art inspired ink sketches.
I spent some time looking up some Halloween food ideas. I found some great galleries and a handful of recipes. You can check out my Halloween collection on Pinterest. I also put in an order for some interesting Halloween treats. Stay tuned for all the details.
I continued the food theme and whipped up a meal plan for the week filled with meals that wifey wanted again. I made it an 8 day plan so we’d still have food for the night before she leaves.
I finished the day with French. It was a positive practice. There are some words I haven’t had come up in a while and I still remembered them. That made me feel good.
I’m not sure what the coming week will bring. I’ll try and do some creative and get back to working out. I think it’s mostly going to be spending time with wifey though. This is her last week here and it is usually pretty hard on both of us.
I hope your week is filled with things that make you smile. Good luck if you’re starting a new project or a new job. I believe in you. You’ll do great.
I only got about four hours sleep. When I got into bed around 2 am, I laid there. I heard a loud thump on the roof and started writing horror stories in my head. Then I heard a thump in the lounge room and felt a little uneasy. Eventually I fell asleep but woke before 7 am. I got up.
I drank coffee and logged on Duolingo for some French practice. I had finished the ‘travel 2’ topic, so I settled in for some timed practice runs. It gave me a lot of the words I first learned, they were fun and easy.
Then it was time for the Inktober 2019 prompt; 25. Tasty. I decided to use a pop art inspired reference. I started this sketch yesterday and gave up on it. I found the face far too hard. I really liked the reference and was determined to finish it so gave it another shot today.
It took hours and I’m not happy with it (when am I ever happy? #artistproblems) but I’m glad I finished it. I really need to practice sketching face features.
From 10.30 am until about 1 pm I played WoW with friends. We had a great day, lots of smiles and a little success.
Then I worked on another Inktober prompt; 26. Dark. (I’ve almost caught up!!!!) This was an easy one for me, I went with dark chocolate by Lindt. I couldn’t draw the logo and I missed out some of the decorative detail but overall I love how this turned out. And yes, I have tried to eat it.
I then whipped up a sketch for my next Doodlewash watercolour but I haven’t coloured it yet. I’ll have to work extra hard at getting caught up on this challenge. Although, with wifey only here for a week and a half more, I can see less getting done this week as the clinging begins. It’s hard being so far away from someone for the better part of the year but it’s totally worth it. When it’s right, it’s right.
We finished the day with a scary movie, so I’m sure that means more frightful thuds in the night. Hopefully it’ll be a great sleep anyway.
I hope your weekend has been filled with things you love.
I woke up at 7 am and decided to start the day. That means I sat around sipping coffee until hubby had pirouetted off to work and art time had official begun.
I started with the Inktober 2019 prompt; 22. Ghost. After browsing a number of cute and some very spooky ghost pictures, I decided to go for an adorable quiet ghost.
Then I did the Inktober prompt; 23. Ancient. I spent some time looking at photos of Stonehenge, The Parthenon, Pyramids and an assortment of other ancient things that looked too hard to try. I settled on the Mayan Temple pyramid of Kukulkan.
I quickly moved onto the Inktober prompt; 24. Dizzy. This seemed like an impossible task until I stumbled upon a thumbnail for a video on how to say ‘Dizzy’ in sign language. The dizzy cartoon boy seemed achievable. Plus I learned something new; how to say dizzy in sign language.
It had been another hot day and I finished it with a nap and French. The nap was definitely better than the French. I guess I was just distracted. I was getting more wrong than I was getting right. A handful of new things in the new topic were… new. They were also confusing. Eep.
I hope you’ve had a super day filled with wonderful surprises, comforting food and smiles.
I had a pretty terrible sleep but during the terrible moments, I knew, I was loved. You know you’ve found the right person when they’ll get up in the middle of the night to be with you when you don’t feel well. Wifey stayed up with me and settled me back to bed at 4 am.
When morning finally rolled around I reluctantly crawled out of bed. It was about 8 am. I knew the day was going to be hot so I started working on things pretty quickly. Once hubby had jet off to work, I did my French lesson. I’m sure I’ll be through this new topic within a day or two.
I then worked on the Doodlewash – October 2019 prompt; 14. Forest. The first thing I thought of was mushrooms, and as I’d tried once before with just lead pencil, I thought this could be a fun attempt. I chose a very simple brown mushroom reference.
Today has been our first taste of summer, it got to 34 degrees (93.2 fahrenheit) and it made it hard to focus on art. I did the Inktober 2019 prompt; 20. Tread. I found a great reference photo of a snow vehicle.
I also did the Inktober prompt; 21. Treasure. My first thought when I read this prompt was a memory from my childhood.
I loved playing with LEGO when I was little and I had a pirate set with treasure. There was a shark from another set that would often swim around the treasure island and try to steal the gold coins. One day, the shark did. I stuffed four coins into its mouth and that’s where they remained. They were the perfect size to get perfectly stuck. I had to try drawing that LEGO set.
I finished the day with a nap in front of the air cooler. I’m not sure how I’ll stay focused through summer. At least I have a little time to work it out.
I hope your day has been filled with brightness, goodness and something you treasure.
My day started with a longing stare and a mountain of licks from Homer dog because he wanted to go outside. It was already 8 am so I settled down on the couch for a good heaping of Good Mythical Morning to start the day. Then it was time to write a meal plan.
I did a five day meal plan with lots of new things to try. We have one vegetarian meal on the menu and there’ll be some leftover ricotta, so I’ll try and write a recipe for my spinach and ricotta pinwheels this week.
Once hubby and wifey had gone to do the shopping, I decided to do some singing. I’ve been having some fun learning the song Dance Monkey by Tones & I. I Can’t wait to try recording it again.
Before I knew it everyone was back and it was time for me to art. For the Inktober 2019 prompt; 18. Misfit, I decided on a drum kit for the band ‘The Misfits’. It was based on this Ashton kit.
I tried to work on the next Inktober prompt but couldn’t finish it… or got distracted very easily so I didn’t have to finish it. Instead of drawing I spent some time with a friend. We had fun as always. I also found out that I inspired him to write a song. That made my night.
I finished the day with French. I had one perfect run and a handful of timed attempts with silly mistakes. Tomorrow I’ll start a new topic. I’ll try and start a lot of new projects tomorrow or work on some old ones like the pair of gloves I’m knitting for hubby.
I hope that your day has been inspiring and creative. Good luck with any new projects you may be starting this week. You got it!
Homer dog woke me around 6 am so he could go out. There was nothing in me that wanted to stay awake, so I crawled back into bed until 9 am. It was a late start to the day and I spent the first couple of hours sipping coffee and spending time with wifey.
Then it was time for the creative and I spent the rest of the day doing it. First I started the Doodlewash – October 2019 prompt; 11. Fox. While I really want to try doing a watercolour fox, it really didn’t fit my food theme. (After a quick Google search, it probably would have fit my theme but.. no.) So I decided to draw something a fox would eat. It just so happens that humans also eat them. I used this little green frog reference.
I tried to make the colours a lot softer than I have been (I think I’m addicted to bold colour.) I used two shades of green, brown, yellow, grey and black.
I also did the Inktober 2019 prompt; 17. Ornament. My first thought was a Christmas tree ornament and I very quickly found an ornament reference photo. I also added a couple of simpler decorations and lights.
By the time the sketching was done, so was the day. Wifey had made a delicious dinner and we settled in for a couple of scary movies. The only problem with scary movies is they usually take a turn for the worse in the last 10 minutes. The surprise ending is usually a disappointing ending. We watched; Hereditary. I watched it like I was hypnotised. It made me jump. It made my heart pound. Then it disappointed me. Ahhhh the horror of it all.
It was a satisfying day and I’m tired. Hopefully I won’t have bad dreams.
I hope your world is bright, shiny, filled with laughter and splashed with success. You’re a an amazing individual.
