Day 78

Hubby left for work at 6.30 am and that’s when I crawled out of bed. I was hoping to spend a little time with wifey before I got about my day but she was napping. I fiddled with a few mindless mobile games and felt the sads creeping upon me. Instead of wallowing in it, I got to my workout and really pushed myself, squeezed muscles and made sure that if it could be worked out, that it was.

Once that was done I thought I’d take advantage of the nice morning light and get some painting done. I set up my paints, sat down to leave wifey a message and got distracted with singing. I sang a few songs and enjoyed the music so much I made an Indie playlist that I could listen to while painting.

Check out my Indie Vibes playlist on Youtube.

From about 10 am until 5 pm, I was painting. The painting was based on a picture I took many years ago when we were in Akaroa, New Zealand. We were on a 14 day cruise around New Zealand and that is one of the shore days. It’s one of my favourite shore days. You have to take a little boat from the cruise ship to the shore. There is also an amazing restaurant there called Bully Hayes. I hope to get back there one day.

I’ll post all the painting stuff tomorrow. I finished so late it was impossible to get a good photo with the light I have available. Hopefully I can get a great shot of it tomorrow. I’m proud of this painting.

I do have something to share today, my ‘out a window’ photo for this weeks  Let’s Do 52 – 52 Week Photo Challenge. Being that I don’t leave the house, what windows I have to get a shot out of are limited. The backyard doesn’t have a lot in it to take pictures, the front yard has even less. I didn’t think a picture of the neighbours house was really worthy either.

Yesterday, we had a visit from a White-faced Heron. They like to forage for bugs. It’s not the first time we’ve seen one of these birds. He was prowling around the greenhouse when I captured the picture through the back window.

It was so hard to get the shot. I had limited room, had to zoom in as far as my camera would go and then of course, the heron had to be in the shot. I snapped a handful of shots but this one was my favourite. It’s kind of mysterious and the shadows are lovely.

Seeing most of my day was taken up with painting, I didn’t get much else done. I can say that I did do some drawing, not a lot but it happened. I practised drawing the sailboat before trying to paint it.

I did get in 30 minutes of French. I finished the ‘people’ topic. I’m not sure I’m ready to move on to new things, so looks like it’ll be back to the practice level for a couple of days. I did remember more words today and I think I’ve worked out when to use ‘a’ or ‘en’ (the French word for ‘in’, just missing an accent or two). Practice, practice, practice.

I didn’t get round to writing practice today, so I’m going to do a bit of a ‘get to know me’ type questionnaire. You can find the ‘Dig a Little Deeper’ questions here. I’ll do half tonight and half another night this week. If you’re game, enjoy.

  1. Do you prefer writing with black or blue pen? I’ll say blue pen only because I’m using a blue pen at the moment and I like it.
  2. Would you prefer to live in the country or the city? In the country, for sure. If I’m going to be surrounded by something, I’d prefer it to be peace and quiet, nature and stars.
  3. If you could learn a new skill, what would it be? I’m learning lots of new things already, so I’m not sure what the next one would or should be, yet.
  4. Do you drink your tea or coffee with sugar? I drink coffee with sugar.
  5. Do you prefer baths or showers? I’d say showers. It’s nice to wash the day away, instead of soaking in it. Plus, I’ve never lived anywhere with a bath that accommodates my long legs.
  6. If you could be a mythical creature, which would you choose? Mermaid. I love the ocean. I feel like it would be such a peaceful life.
  7. Do you prefer reading paper or electronic books? I don’t really like reading. I have the attention span of a flea with a bad attention span. Although, I like when wifey reads me books and she does it on an electronic device, sooooo…. electronic.
  8. What is your favourite item of clothing? Black or dark blue skinny jeans. It took me many years to want to wear them and now you can’t get me out of them.
  9. Do you like your name? Would you ever change it? I don’t like my name. I will most likely change it.
  10. Who is a mentor to you? I don’t have a mentor.
  11. Would you ever want to be famous? If so, what for? I’ve always wanted to be famous. A famous singer or photographer. I’d settle for any sort of creative medium fame.
  12. Are you a restless sleeper? Sometimes. I’m definitely more restless when I’m in pain.
  13. Do you consider yourself a romantic? I’m unconventionally romantic.
  14. Which element best represents you? Definitely one of them.
  15. Who do you want to be closer to? Wifey. She lives too far away.
  16. Do you miss someone at the moment? I always miss my mum.
  17. Tell us about an early childhood memory. I really don’t remember a lot of my childhood. I’ve manged to block most of it out because of all the bad things I lived through. The few fleeting memories I have, aren’t really that nice. Others are just memories of photos. I really don’t have an answer.
  18. What is the strangest thing you have eaten? I know it’s not that wild but when I was young, I used to love eating Lamb’s Fry. (Lamb livers.) My granddad would fry them and put them in a bacon gravy. I would eat them cold on a sandwich, with tomato sauce.
  19. What can you see outside your bedroom window? The neighbours house across the street. I wish we had some trees or a window box with flowers.
  20. What are you most thankful for? I’m thankful that I own my own home.
  21. Do you like spicy food? Yes but not too spicy.
  22. Have you ever met someone famous? Low level famous, definitely. I got Arj Barker to sign my boobs one year at the Melbourne Comedy Festival.
  23. Do you keep a diary or journal? I feel like this blog is a diary, so yes.
  24. Do you prefer a pen or pencil? I prefer a keyboard. Whoever wrote these questions has a strange obsession with old fashioned writing tools.
  25. What is your star sign? Cancer

If you read all this, you are my favourite! I hope you have the best week.

Day 75

It was a late start today but the sleep in was very needed. Hubby and I were pretty bad at getting to bed on time during the week. I blame cricket. I don’t watch it but hubby does and you don’t really have to twist my arm to stay up. This week will be different, I just know it.

The plan was to get the kitchen finished but we were missing a couple of key cleaning supplies. So we went about doing normal housework instead.

For this week’s Let’s Do 52 – 52 Week Photo Challenge picture, I had to snap something ‘close up’. I decided to use the freshly knit bunny, that I made for my dog Homer, as the focus of this shot. I set up the cute little scene outside and got snap happy. Special thanks to hubby for holding some of the flowers.

For more information on the bunny, the tutorial I followed and Homers reaction to his new toy, check out Little Brown Bunny on Three Peas, One Pod.

We have been growing two leeks on the windowsill. One has been growing for about three weeks, the other just over a week. Today it was time to plant the first one. The second one will probably be ready for soil next weekend. It’s not the best time of year for planting new things but we wanted to try anyway.

I was thrilled to see a comment on yesterday’s post from Eilidh Horder, in French. The best part was, I knew what it meant. What an encouraging feeling before diving into another French lesson. I did about 30 minutes, working on the ‘people’ subject. I still get a lot wrong but a number of the words are already stuck in my brain after two days. Woo. I’m feeling encouraged.

Lastly, here are some tasty tunes to fill your face with good feels. Enjoy!

Day 61

After a lovely sleep in, the strangest thing happened this morning. I was fiddling with the short multi-coloured scarf I finished knitting, thinking that I might be able to turn it into a slipper. I sat with it wrapped around my foot, folding and scrunching and pulling at it until it somewhat resembled footwear. I was getting so close to turning it into something, I had to get the safety pins to hold it together.

I went to the little sowing kit we keep in an old box of chocolates. I pushed a few things aside and didn’t find the safety pins BUT I did find my locket and wedding ring! I wasn’t expecting them to be in there, especially because I thought I’d looked in there when I first lost them. They weren’t lost after all, they were just at the other side of the room.

Full-sized picture on Flickr.

I’m so glad I found the locket in time for this weeks Let’s Do 52 – 52 Week Photo Challenge picture. I had to capture something ‘old’, this locket is definitely old and laced with history and memories. The picture itself isn’t very creative or interesting but the locket is so amazing I don’t think that matters.

My mum bought this locket sometime in the 70s. She placed a picture of herself in the locket and a lock of her hair and gave it to her mum (my grandma.) The locket returned to me after my mum and my grandma had passed away, which is why it’s so important to me. It’s a heartfelt reminder of the two most amazing women that made my life brighter.

At the point of writing this, I haven’t done French lessons today but hopefully I can get that in after I post.

The new week is about to begin and there are lots of things on my to do list. The best way to get through a to do list, is with a great play list. I hope you enjoy the tunes.

Day 54

Married Life: 13 Years
[I’m in the living room, hubby is in the kitchen making lunch]
Me: [shouts] Can you go pee for me? I couldn’t be bothered
Hubby: I’m already doing it

These are the conversations you have when you’re 15 years into a relationship. I’d go so far as to say, that’s about 80% of the conversations you have at that point. It’s a mix of dad jokes and a drunk in a comedy club but it works.

I can’t say that hubby and I were productive today. The one thing we’ve become good at is encouraging each others laziness. Even with the accountability of blogging, I still shoved discipline off a cliff and chilled. My hands were too cold for activities. Excuse slam dunk.

We have a few house projects that we really really want to get started, so this week I’ll write a schedule. We’re working on two timelines, spring and wifey coming home. (They’ll happen around the same time anyway.) If I could get a world-wide encouragement chant for next weekend, that would be appreciated.

For your relaxing ear pleasure, I’ve worked on this chill play list all week. I’m really loving the Indie sounds at the moment. There seems to be a 50’s reboot happening and it’s glorious. Weirdly, that really makes me want to bake.

Top 10 Songs You Need To Hear
1. Aldous Harding – The Barrel
2. The Raconteurs – Now That You’re Gone
3. Mac DeMarco – Nobody
4. Okey Dokey – Whose Heart
5. Easy Life – Nightmares
6. Moon Taxi – All Day, All Night
7. Riscas – Panic Like Tom
8. Fruit Bats – Humbug Mountain Song
9. Architecture in Helsinki – Frenchy I’m Falling
10. Arlie – Didya Think

So while I was a lady of luxury (laziness) I spent a nice portion of the day finding wonderfully creative blogs on WordPress. Everything from writing, arts and crafts, baking, painting and more. As usual it was inspiring.

The one real take away was reading a very candid blog, GABFRAB, and how honest the writing is (or maybe it’s all made up but it has inspired a surge of honesty nonetheless). I want to be more honest.

Over the years I’ve become incredibly introverted. I don’t care to share information about myself or my family. I keep my opinions closely guarded. When I give information, it’s only a little bit, enough to suit the conversation, definitely nothing more. So from now on, there will be more me on the page. I won’t be ashamed of who I am and my opinions.

This week I’m going to be more organised, work on a new knitting project, paint at least once, continue my workout routine, spend time encouraging people and be more open. Good luck to everyone this week. I hope you get everything accomplished that you set out to do.

Here’s Day 21 of the writing challenge. If you’d like to see the full challenge details, click here. All 30 days will be posted here.

Day 21: What 3 lessons do you want your children to learn from you?
Please note: I do not have children but if I did, this would be what I want them to learn.

  1. If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all. This was something that we were taught growing up and something that has long been forgotten on the internet journey. There is never a good reason to make somebody feel bad with your words. Bullying is not okay.
  2. How someone lives their life, is none of your business. If you don’t like the way someone behaves, remove yourself from their world. Your opinion on how someone should live, is just that. It’s an opinion. People should have the right to live their life as they see fit. It’s not our place to judge.
  3. Make the world better, one smile at a time. The world is full of stress, sadness, pain, anger and anxiety. Some people feel or face that every day. If you can say something to put a smile on someone’s face, then you are making the world a better place. Compliment people. Encourage people. Listen to people. You will learn, grow and fill your own world with smiles. It’s a winning situation for everyone.
