Day 236

Oh my! What a lazy day. Hubby and I did a little housework, I practised French and I did a coloured pencil drawing and that’s what we call, Monday.

I haven’t worked with normal colour pencils for a while now and thought I’d like to revisit it. I found a Youtube tutorial; How to Draw a Butterfly with Coloured Pencils. I enjoyed it. It was uplifting using colour after a few days of charcoal. I will have to practice each medium more frequently.

It’s been a very relaxing weekend but it’s back to being productive tomorrow. I’ve already whipped up my Happy List (a list of things that will make me feel happier if I do them.) Art is, once again, heavily featured. I’ve also decided to keep the smiling for no reason. The first couple of days I had to keep a pretty close eye on the clock, to make sure I was doing it for long enough. Now I find myself just smiling for no reason all the time. Feels good.

  1. Workout, 5 days
  2. Drink 2 bottles of water, 5 days
  3. Art, 5 days
  4. Do 3 art lesson/’how to’
  5. French, 6 days
  6. Smile for 10 minutes, for no reason, 5 days
  7. Sing, 2 days
  8. Watch 1 world movie
  9. Start working on Penguin Project
  10. Nap

I hope you have a productive week filled with smiles, friends and creativity.

Day 230

When I woke up my first thought was; ‘Ugh’. Another day was starting and it was a day I didn’t want to participate in. I also knew this was completely silly and probably just my mood lingering from yesterday. I sipped coffee and waited for hubby to leave.

Soon as he’d whisked off to work, I worked out. YES! I actually did what I was supposed to. It wasn’t a particularly good workout but I felt proud that I’d got it done.

That was the motivation I needed to start a new topic in French. This is a group of ‘At Work’ words. I don’t remember any of them. I do remember that I was able to say them easily and knew what a lot of them meant without having to check first. A week of practice and I should have them.

I usually add to watch a ‘world movie’ on my Happy List. I’m not much of a movie fan in the first place but I enjoy watching something French or as I’m coming to learn, Norwegian movies. Today I watched The Ash Lad: In the Hall of the Mountain King. It was made in 2017. The landscape is breathtaking and the effects were believable. Seeing I read it, I can’t really comment on the acting. It was a nice little trip into Norwegian folklore. I really enjoyed this movie.

There were three art projects that I wanted to work on today. A watercolour, a portrait sketch and something for a friends birthday.

For my watercolour, I wanted to try something very simple and spend more time building layers of colour, so I wouldn’t feel the need to use ink. I used this opened window photo as my reference.

Yesterday I did a search on Unsplash for Ho Chi Minh City. I scrolled through pages of photos and found some amazing and inspiring cityscape shots. Then I saw this photo of an older man. His face had so much character, I knew I wanted to try and sketch it.

This was a rough sketch with one pencil. I played around with the contrast in an editing program so that it was easier to see. I have such a hard time getting the right ‘natural light’ for photos.

The last art that I worked on today was a penguin sketch for my friends birthday. I wish I could have done more for him. He has been a very shiny light in my world and I’m not sure a penguin adequately expresses just how much I appreciate him.

Today is new Happy List day. It’s mostly a to do list, with a handful of self care. I already got a few things done, so it feels like I’ve had a great start to the week.

  1. Workout, 5 days
  2. Drink 2 bottles of water, 5 days
  3. Art, 5 days
  4. Do 3 art lesson/’how to’
  5. French, 6 days
  6. Smile for 10 minutes, for no reason, 5 days
  7. Sing, 2 days
  8. Watch 1 world movie
  9. Massage legs, 2 days
  10. Nap

I have just spent the last 10 minutes smiling for no reason and it’s made me feel pretty good. I’m looking forward to tomorrow.

I hope you’re in good spirits and good health. Have a fantastic week.

Tilly

Day 223

I woke up before 6 am and decided to stay up and enjoy whatever coolness the morning would provide. We had a forecast for 35 degrees (95 Fahrenheit) and I wasn’t looking forward to a day of productivity. I spent some time playing WoW until hubby left for work.

Once hubby had fluttered off to work, I worked out. I didn’t want to but I know I had to return to being disciplined. It felt good while I was doing it. Now stuff hurts and it’s hot. Yuck

The morning was starting to heat up and I quickly got to art. I found a colourful houses by water photo for inspiration. I tried but I really don’t like this one. There are some mistakes which I didn’t notice until after it was done. The colours don’t pop as much and… the ink. Hmph to the ink.

By the time I’d finished working on it, the day was hot and I was emotional. Let’s just pretend that I was emotional because it was hot.

I did a really quick French practice and headed to bed around 3 pm to try and avoid the hottest part of the day in front of the fan. I am not sure I slept but I am sure that it really did get hotter.

It’s Happy List time of the week again. I sure hope that if I get this stuff done, that I will feel happier with myself.

  1. Workout, 5 days
  2. Drink 2 bottles of water, 5 days
  3. Art, 5 days
  4. Make watercolour pencils colour chart
  5. French, 6 days
  6. Practice drawing lips
  7. Sing, 3 days
  8. Watch 1 world movie
  9. Massage legs, 2 days
  10. Nap

I hope you’re having a magical day filled with smiles, good feels and the people you love. I’m sorry if you’re hurting right now. It’ll all be okay. *HUGS*

Day 202

I woke up with some pretty horrible shoulder pain. The sort of pain that takes your breath away. It has lingered all day, only getting brief moments of relief when painkillers kick in or when I’m sleeping.

I avoided a workout and got straight to the Doodlewash – October 2019 prompt; 12. Reptile. I decided to do a snake as they are something people eat. Although, I think the snake I did was poisonous, so probably not the best meal option. I found it hard to concentrate but tried as hard as I could.

I then tried, again, to finish the Inktober prompt; Sling. Sadly, I still don’t have a finished sketch. I changed a couple of things but it still needs work. Tomorrow I’ll try to finish it and if I can’t, I’ll need to try a different ‘sling’.

I started a new topic in French. It’s another ‘Travel’ topic and it’s adding new country names and new places you would go to. The word for beach is so close to the word plague. I find that weird but at least I can now say; J’aime le plage.

Hopefully tomorrow will be pain free so I can try and catch up on these challenges or do anything else on my Happy List.

Happy List for the week ending 27 October 2019

  1. Learn something new
  2. Drink 2 bottles of water, 5 days
  3. Finish knitting one glove
  4. Do 2 art piece for myself
  5. Drawing Challenge, 5 days
  6. Find some Halloween recipes
  7. Sing, 1 day
  8. Watch 1 world movie
  9. Massage legs, 2 days
  10. Nap

I hope you have a week filled with things you love, lots of smiles and success. You’re amazing and can do anything you set your mind to.

Tilly

Day 195

I woke up just after 7 am and felt hopeful about the day but the only thing I managed to do before hubby left for work was drink coffee. Then it was time to workout. It was a pretty slow workout but we got it done and made body parts ache.

Then I sat down to start work on the Doodlewash – October 2019 prompt; 9. Porch. Seeing a porch isn’t food or food related, I had to think of something you’d enjoy on a porch. I picked iced tea, which seemed like a Southern USA porch-sitting type drink.

Anytime I had to wait for the water on the iced tea drawing to dry, I worked on the Inktober 2019 prompt; 13. Ash. I wanted to draw a male holding or smoking a cigarette (I’ve only been drawing females so far), and found a great reference picture of a man holding a cigarette.

I finished the day with French. I noticed that I’d finished the ‘City’ topic, so it’s just timed practice runs for the rest of the week.

It has been a pretty good start to the week. A new happy list has started and I WILL get it all done this week…. I hope.

  1. Learn something new

  4. Draw with Ink, 5 days
  5. Drawing Challenge, 5 days

  7. Play guitar, 3 days
  8. Watch 1 world movie
  9. Massage legs, 2 days
  10. Nap

I hope you have a week filled with creativity, satisfaction and a little relaxing.

Tilly

Day 187

I woke just after 7 am and I really wanted to go back to sleep. I tried but my brain had already started ticking and I was keen on starting some art. I’m a few days behind in the Doodlewash event and one day behind in the Inktober event.

For the Doodlewash – October 2019 prompt; 4. Ice, I decided to do ice cream because yum! I found a colourful reference and tried. I particularly like the wafer and the strawberry ice cream. Another thing I will try drawing again.

All challenge drawings can be found here…

For the Inktober 2019 prompt; 6. Husky, I decided to draw a Hillman Husky. My original idea was to draw a husky dog but wifey helped me find a non dog reference. I had no idea how to tackle a dog in ink.

I spent the afternoon looking for some reference pictures for my next few challenge prompts and I worked on the next Inktober sketch but it’s not finished yet.

The new week starts tomorrow and that means a new Happy List. Although I have ignored writing for many weeks now, I still keep it on the list. I have things I want to write but no discipline in this area.

New to the list this week is playing my piano. I started learning to play piano when I was four. It’s always been something I loved but over the last 10 years (and not having my piano), I just lost the urge. Today hubby and wifey finally pulled my electric piano out of storage. Fingers crossed it still works.

Happy List for the week ending 13 October 2019

  1. Teach wifey to knit
  2. Plant seeds
  3. Knit, 2 days
  4. Draw with Ink, 5 days
  5. Watercolour, 5 days
  6. Write, 2 days
  7. Guitar / Sing / Piano, 3 days
  8. Watch 1 world movie
  9. Massage legs, 2 days
  10. Drink 2 bottles of water, 5 days

I hope your week is creative, inspired, happy, healthy and filled with things you love. You’re a shining star on a dark night. =)

Tilly

Day 181

The day started at 7 am and by 8 am I was doing French. I finished the ‘restaurant’ topic and I’m going to spend the rest of the week doing timed practice runs. It was a pretty solid practice again. I finally feel I’m getting somewhere with French. I’m on a 100 day streak. Woo!

Hubby ambled off to work which marked the start of the day. I threw my blanket off and wifey and I got to working out. We did the workout in 26 minutes. We both groaned a lot. I like to call that the sound of workout. If i’m not making it, I’m just not pushing hard enough.

Being the first of the month a lot of art challenges are starting. I really want to participate in the Doodlwash October and Inktober events. Although, as I write this, I still haven’t finished the event from last month. If I can finish that off today, I’ll be happy.

I started with the Doodlewash – September 2019 prompt; 27. Phone. I referenced a retro phone I found on Pinterest.

All challenge drawings can be found here…
Doodlewash – September 2019 on Three Peas, One Pod

I skipped prompt 28 because I planned on using watercolour pencils and thought it would be best to do that last.

So then it was onto the prompt; 29. Bottle. I was looking at upcycled wine bottles for inspiration and saw some lovely vintage bottles. That led me to perfume bottles and I chose a beautiful pink perfume bottle for inspiration. I ended up taking a little inspiration from it then made it my own (something I could actually draw.)

Next I did the Doodlewash prompt; 30. Brush. There were so many different brushes that I could have chosen but I was drawn to a picture of mascara. It has to be one of my favourite beauty products. I sketched the ‘Lash Paradise‘ from the reference picture.

Then it was time for the last Doodlewash prompt; 28. Soap. I left this one til last because I was going to try to use watercolour pencils but I’d been having such a good day of normal pencils, I continued the trend, regrettably. The smoothness of watercolour would have helped this a lot. Oh well. The reference I used has a recipe for making soap. That seems pretty cool.

I got through the last four Doodlewash – September 2019 prompts by 4 pm. It felt like a good place to stop. Tomorrow will be another very full day of art. I will start work on Doodlewash – October and Inktober prompts.

Inktober 2019

It’s a new week for the Happy List (a list of 10 things that will make me feel happier if I do them). Arts and craft is strongly featured. I really just want to learn and do things that are good for me.

  1. Learn something new
  2. Paint
  3. Knit, 2 days
  4. Draw with Ink, 5 days
  5. Drawing Challenge, 5 days
  6. Write, 2 days
  7. Play guitar, 3 days
  8. Watch 1 world movie
  9. Massage legs, 2 days
  10. Drink 2 bottles of water, 5 days

If I could keep up today’s level of busy all week, that would be epic. I feel that I won’t be able to sustain it though. I’m tired already.

I hope your day has been filled with creativity, colour and cake.

Tilly

Day 167

When I heard the car start up and hubby pulled away, headed for work, I KNEW it was time to be awake. I’m not sure how hubby managed to do his morning without making noise.

Once I was up, I jumped straight into a workout. It’s nice to be back to working out. I didn’t push too hard because I still have a cough lingering but I did workout for 30 minutes.

Next it was time for French. A big shout out to MJ Seal for commenting on yesterday’s post in French. I was excited when I knew what he had said without the help of Google translate. That was the inspiration I needed. I finished the ‘Family 2’ topic and did a few practice runs. Overall it was a solid practice. The next topic is ‘Restaurant’. I will start that next week.

I did the Doodlewash – September 2019 prompt; 14. Buttons. I wanted to draw a doll with button eyes but found it hard to find a picture to reference. I took inspiration from this doll on Pinterest. I sketched the doll sitting in what I felt was a natural position for a doll.

All challenge drawings can be found here…
Doodlewash – September 2019 on Three Peas, One Pod

After lunch I got my guitar out and did some practising. I don’t think I’ll be able to play bar chords anytime soon, so I’m thankful for artists who write in the key of G. One great three chord song is by Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats – I Need Never Get Old.

Half way through the practice I decided I needed a pick. I didn’t want to get out from under the blanket to grab one from the guitar case, so I grabbed the closest thing possible, a tiny toy of ‘Primo English ham’. It worked well.

It’s Tuesday so that means it’s new Happy List Day. Most of the list was easy (recycled from last week). The purpose of the list is to do things that will make me feel happier if I do them. There is no punishment or bad feels for not doing the list. It is a happy list after all.

Happy List for the week ending 22 September 2019.

  1. Make gold in WoW for sub
  2. Paint
  3. Start a knitting project
  4. Write an ‘About Me’ page on 4440
  5. Draw, 5 days
  6. Write, 2 days
  7. Play guitar, 3 days
  8. Watch 1 world movie
  9. Massage legs, 2 days
  10. Drink 2 bottles of water, 5 days

It was a fairly productive day. I just need to work on things a little faster, so I can stuff more creativity into the awake hours.

I hope your day has been productive and peaceful.

Tilly

Day 160

When I crawled out of bed around 8 am, I knew I didn’t want to be up for long. Everything ached. My arms, legs, chest, head, my everything felt terrible. I went back to bed and hoped the extra sleep would give me the energy I needed for the day.

I got out of bed again around midday and really couldn’t find the energy. This head cold has really been kicking my booty.

The only thing I worked on today was a happy list. I am determined to get it all done. Wish me luck.

Happy List for 10 September – 15 September 2019

  1. Buy art supplies
  2. Paint
  3. Start a knitting project
  4. Write an ‘About Me’ page on 4440
  5. Draw, 5 days
  6. Write, 2 days
  7. Start a new topic in French
  8. Watch 1 world movie
  9. Massage legs, 2 days
  10. Drink 2 bottles of water, 5 days

Good luck to all those starting new projects or working on old projects this week. You’ll do great. I just know it.

Tilly

Day 132

I had an okay sleep. Went to bed early because I wasn’t feeling well. Woke after a nightmare but went back to sleep until just before 7 am. I felt okay about starting the day.

I sat down with a cup of coffee and enjoyed every second of it, then dived into French. I got to 200 xp points pretty quickly and for the most part, remembered the words. I probably should have started on a new group of words today.

Soon as hubby had skipped off to work (he probably didn’t skip but I like to think it happened that way), I jumped into my workout. I put on my playlist and made a huge effort to get through it hard and fast. It was an amazing workout. I got to the end and was tempted to do a third round. If I can feel that way after every workout this week, it will be time to increase it.

I had a wonderful comment on yesterday’s post about living in the moment. Thanks Elaine. So I am dedicated to living in the moment. I won’t dwell on the past, I won’t obsess over the future, I will just do each task as it comes and enjoy it as much as possible. So far, so good.

My next task for the day was today’s drawing challenge topic; cityscape. My first thought was to do a drawing of the Sydney, Australia, skyline. It’s my favourite city and I think with so many landmarks, it makes for a wonderful subject. I eventually found this reference picture.

All challenge drawings can be found here…
40 Day Drawing Challenge on Three Peas, One Pod

The afternoon was filled with singing, some work on my short story and I spent a good amount of time reading and commenting on blog posts. There are so many interesting and creative people out there. It’s very inspiring.

A new Happy List is underway but I don’t have all the lists yet, so no updates. The list may seem a bit silly but it has really helped us to focus on things that wouldn’t get much attention before. Things that take little time to achieve but can put some big smiles on faces. I’ve added a couple of very indulgent goals for the week. I feel happier already.

I hope you’re having a wonderfully inspired week.

Tilly
