Day 107

It was a good nights sleep but I really didn’t want to get up. It was another one of those hard mornings. I shook it off and got straight into drawing. Today’s drawing challenge topic; Cacti / Succulents. The idea of this draw was fun. I’ve been wanting to paint or draw a cactus for a while. I really don’t know why.

It took just over 30 minutes to draw. While there are so many amazing photos of real succulents and cacti, I just loved the styling of this photo of the crafted version.

I finished the drawing just after 8.30 am and that meant it was time for a workout. I try and do the workout around the same time each day, somewhere between 8.30 – 9 am.

I started working out in the morning because I thought if I waited til the afternoon or night that I most likely wouldn’t want to do it and would just put off doing it. If it’s a morning task that I have to do before other things, I’ll get it done. It has worked and today’s workout was 5 minutes faster, even with a couple of extra reps. Go me.

After that I found a photo I’d like to try painting, drew a quick outline and then…. made lunch. I figured it made more sense to have lunch first, then I could work on the painting until it was done.

Once lunch was done I got distracted again and spent a couple of hours playing with a friend in WoW. It was the first time I had used voice chat with them. I was so nervous my whole body shivered. At first I thought I’d just got really cold but it was nerves. I’m always glad when I have conversation. I almost feel normal.

I gave up on painting for another day, packed up my paints and did my French lessons instead. I can’t believe how badly I did with the words. It’s like I’d never heard of them. I also feel like French has at least 15 different words for ‘my’. I guess that’s not the case but it feels that way. The long haul of learning is on for this set of words.

Day 27: Discuss a problem you have or had in the past.

When I was 19, I had a pretty bad gambling problem.

For as long as I could remember my parents loved to go to the local bowling club to play the poker machines. Soon as I turned 18, I could finally join them. Mum would give me money to play them. Sometimes I’d win, most times I’d lose. I loved the thrill of winning and was always hoping for the big one.

At 19, I started a new job and would get paid weekly. As soon as I was paid, I would fill the car up with petrol, so I could get to work for the week, then go to the closest club to play poker machines. Sometimes I would win but for the most part, I would go home a few hours later, with no money left for the week.

For years later, any time I had money, or sometimes when I didn’t, I would go and try to win. The main reason I stopped going was because of my agoraphobia.

Now that I’ve gotten older and now I own a house (that needs a lot of work) I feel like even if I could go out, that’s not what I’d want to do with my money. Although that big win is still alluring. I think it’s still a problem.

I hope you’re living your best life and I hope you’re having a problem free week. Happy Friday.
