Day 392

I listened to a healing meditation as I drifted off last night. It was very relaxing. I got about 6 hours sleep which isn’t terrible. I really felt like starting art the second I woke up but instead I enjoyed a coffee and watched some short food videos on Youtube with hubby.

Once hubby had gone to work I started work on a meal plan for the rest of the week. I found some great keto recipes (at least they sound great) and I’ve planned to have one that we ate last week. It was just so delicious.

Thurs: Shop / Chicken Kiev + Salad
Fri: Chicken Coconut Curry with Broccoli Rice
Sat: Bacon Cheeseburger + Coleslaw
Sun: Keto Stuffed Cabbage
Mon / Tues: Keto Shepherd’s Pie

Before I started Puddling I decided to do some random art with prompts from ‘Jazza’s Arty Games.’ I found the environment challenges the most fun. I struggled with the ‘character’ challenges and most attempts found their way to the bin. I only set 10 minute timers for each drawing but they all took longer.

I started with the floating city. I didn’t write the prompt down and just had to guess at what it said when I’d finished drawing. I drew it in pencil and ended up lining it in ink to make it look a little bit more dynamic.

With the second one I wrote the entire prompt down and then drew it. I drew an ink outline, used fine liners to colour some of it and pencil to finish it off.

Then I decided to try a ‘copying’ challenge. I once again only set it for 10 minutes and this was no where near enough time. I got it roughly sketched then I ran out of time and the original picture disappeared. I wasn’t sure how to finish the bottom part of the body, so I didn’t worry about it and got to colouring. I used pencil.

I stopped the art-ing for lunch but quickly returned to it in the early afternoon. I got two Puddles completed today. I’m feeling the art!!!!

In today’s Adventures of Arthur Puddles we find him celebrating Read a Road Map Day. Because of the lockdown Arthur can’t go anywhere but he had a great time imagining he was out in his penguin-yellow car.

In today’s Adventures of Arthur Puddles we find him and Douglas dog having a pillow fight for International Pillow Fight Day. They had fun for hours and Douglas won more matches than you would think.

By the late afternoon I really wanted a nap but normal day things just kept happening. I feel so normal. I’m like a real human person today. I got a quick French and Norwegian lesson in and contemplated knitting. I’m close.

I hope you’ve had a fantastic day of smiles, brightness, creativity and relaxing. Keep your chin up and stay strong. This too shall pass. Stay safe and stay at home. Take care.

Day 236

Oh my! What a lazy day. Hubby and I did a little housework, I practised French and I did a coloured pencil drawing and that’s what we call, Monday.

I haven’t worked with normal colour pencils for a while now and thought I’d like to revisit it. I found a Youtube tutorial; How to Draw a Butterfly with Coloured Pencils. I enjoyed it. It was uplifting using colour after a few days of charcoal. I will have to practice each medium more frequently.

It’s been a very relaxing weekend but it’s back to being productive tomorrow. I’ve already whipped up my Happy List (a list of things that will make me feel happier if I do them.) Art is, once again, heavily featured. I’ve also decided to keep the smiling for no reason. The first couple of days I had to keep a pretty close eye on the clock, to make sure I was doing it for long enough. Now I find myself just smiling for no reason all the time. Feels good.

  1. Workout, 5 days
  2. Drink 2 bottles of water, 5 days
  3. Art, 5 days
  4. Do 3 art lesson/’how to’
  5. French, 6 days
  6. Smile for 10 minutes, for no reason, 5 days
  7. Sing, 2 days
  8. Watch 1 world movie
  9. Start working on Penguin Project
  10. Nap

I hope you have a productive week filled with smiles, friends and creativity.

Day 190

I don’t really feel like talking about my day. I’m unimpressed with myself at the moment. I know the feelings will pass and until they do I will do as much as I can.

Today I worked on the Doodlewash – October 2019 prompt; Dog. With the food theme in full swing, I decided to draw a hot dog. I could have just done the hot dog but I found a great reference picture of a woman holding a hot dog.

I also finished the Inktober 2019 prompt; 9. Swing. I did a search for ‘swing’ and amongst all the swings you would sit on, I found a picture of a person taking a swing at a baseball. Why wouldn’t I try sketching that?

I finished the day with French. I have just started work on the ‘City’ topic and got through the first level of it pretty easy. Some of the words like ‘today’ (aujourd’hui) are going to take me some time to get used to.

I hope you have a fantastic day filled with smiles, goodness, friendship and an abundance of creativity. You’re the best.

Day 187

I woke just after 7 am and I really wanted to go back to sleep. I tried but my brain had already started ticking and I was keen on starting some art. I’m a few days behind in the Doodlewash event and one day behind in the Inktober event.

For the Doodlewash – October 2019 prompt; 4. Ice, I decided to do ice cream because yum! I found a colourful reference and tried. I particularly like the wafer and the strawberry ice cream. Another thing I will try drawing again.

For the Inktober 2019 prompt; 6. Husky, I decided to draw a Hillman Husky. My original idea was to draw a husky dog but wifey helped me find a non dog reference. I had no idea how to tackle a dog in ink.

I spent the afternoon looking for some reference pictures for my next few challenge prompts and I worked on the next Inktober sketch but it’s not finished yet.

The new week starts tomorrow and that means a new Happy List. Although I have ignored writing for many weeks now, I still keep it on the list. I have things I want to write but no discipline in this area.

New to the list this week is playing my piano. I started learning to play piano when I was four. It’s always been something I loved but over the last 10 years (and not having my piano), I just lost the urge. Today hubby and wifey finally pulled my electric piano out of storage. Fingers crossed it still works.

Happy List for the week ending 13 October 2019

  1. Teach wifey to knit
  2. Plant seeds
  3. Knit, 2 days
  4. Draw with Ink, 5 days
  5. Watercolour, 5 days
  6. Write, 2 days
  7. Guitar / Sing / Piano, 3 days
  8. Watch 1 world movie
  9. Massage legs, 2 days
  10. Drink 2 bottles of water, 5 days

I hope your week is creative, inspired, happy, healthy and filled with things you love. You’re a shining star on a dark night. =)

Day 185

When I woke up it was dark and I thought I had plenty of sleep time left. I did not. It was 7 am and time to start the day. I stared vaguely until hubby had disappeared off to work and then it was time to work out.

I remember not wanting to workout and pouting my way through the 30 minutes of doing it. I’m always proud of myself for working out when I don’t want to. I thought this would be the hardest change to make and it’s been one of the easier things (although you wouldn’t know it from all my complaining.)

Then I sat down to work on the Doodlewash – October 2019 prompt; 3. Fish. I found a pretty reference picture and did my best. I don’t think I’m being patient enough in between using the water and applying a new colour. I’m also not sure if I use enough or too much water. Confusing. I like how the fish turned out though.

I also did the Inktober 2019 prompt; 5. Build. I didn’t use a reference picture. I’m still a little shy with ink and didn’t add as much detail or shading as I feel it needed. I’m sure I’ll get more confident.

I finished the day with French. The timed practice runs went smoothly and I’m wondering if I should start on a new set of words on Tuesday or if I should practice what I already know for another week.

Tomorrow is the first day of the weekend for hubby and we will relax. Hopefully we’ll get some seeds planted this weekend. I don’t want to miss out on all the lovely spring weather.

Bonne Journée . Que tous tes voeux se réalisent. (Have a good day. May all your wishes come true.)

Day 181

The day started at 7 am and by 8 am I was doing French. I finished the ‘restaurant’ topic and I’m going to spend the rest of the week doing timed practice runs. It was a pretty solid practice again. I finally feel I’m getting somewhere with French. I’m on a 100 day streak. Woo!

Hubby ambled off to work which marked the start of the day. I threw my blanket off and wifey and I got to working out. We did the workout in 26 minutes. We both groaned a lot. I like to call that the sound of workout. If i’m not making it, I’m just not pushing hard enough.

Being the first of the month a lot of art challenges are starting. I really want to participate in the Doodlwash October and Inktober events. Although, as I write this, I still haven’t finished the event from last month. If I can finish that off today, I’ll be happy.

I started with the Doodlewash – September 2019 prompt; 27. Phone. I referenced a retro phone I found on Pinterest.

All challenge drawings can be found here…

I skipped prompt 28 because I planned on using watercolour pencils and thought it would be best to do that last.

So then it was onto the prompt; 29. Bottle. I was looking at upcycled wine bottles for inspiration and saw some lovely vintage bottles. That led me to perfume bottles and I chose a beautiful pink perfume bottle for inspiration. I ended up taking a little inspiration from it then made it my own (something I could actually draw.)

Next I did the Doodlewash prompt; 30. Brush. There were so many different brushes that I could have chosen but I was drawn to a picture of mascara. It has to be one of my favourite beauty products. I sketched the ‘Lash Paradise‘ from the reference picture.

Then it was time for the last Doodlewash prompt; 28. Soap. I left this one til last because I was going to try to use watercolour pencils but I’d been having such a good day of normal pencils, I continued the trend, regrettably. The smoothness of watercolour would have helped this a lot. Oh well. The reference I used has a recipe for making soap. That seems pretty cool.

I got through the last four Doodlewash – September 2019 prompts by 4 pm. It felt like a good place to stop. Tomorrow will be another very full day of art. I will start work on Doodlewash – October and Inktober prompts.

Inktober 2019

It’s a new week for the Happy List (a list of 10 things that will make me feel happier if I do them). Arts and craft is strongly featured. I really just want to learn and do things that are good for me.

  1. Learn something new
  2. Paint
  3. Knit, 2 days
  4. Draw with Ink, 5 days
  5. Drawing Challenge, 5 days
  6. Write, 2 days
  7. Play guitar, 3 days
  8. Watch 1 world movie
  9. Massage legs, 2 days
  10. Drink 2 bottles of water, 5 days

If I could keep up today’s level of busy all week, that would be epic. I feel that I won’t be able to sustain it though. I’m tired already.

I hope your day has been filled with creativity, colour and cake.

Day 180

I must be tired. The day seems like a blur. I know things happened but I can’t remember what order I did them in. So let’s just start with the art stuff.

I did the Doodlewash – September prompt; 25. Vegetables, in water colour pencils. When I saw the prompt I knew I wanted to try heirloom carrots. I found a wonderful reference photo on a recipe for Heirloom Carrots & Nopalitos Green Salad after a quick Google search.

All challenge drawings can be found here…

I also did the Doodlewash prompt; 26. Pots, in pencil. I did a search on Pinterest and saw a cute set of pot plants.

I then did a little more work on the knitting project; a pair of fingerless gloves in my hubby’s favourite football teams colours. These have definitely been a labour of love. It’s the fourth attempt. I got brave and decided to run the first colour up the second, instead of just cutting it off. I’m pretending that it’s working how it should.

I finished the day with a face full of French. I’m still working through the ‘Restaurant’ topic but I think I’m close to being finished. That means I’ll spend the rest of the week doing the timed practice runs.

It’s officially the start of the week tomorrow which means a new Happy List (I’ve been doing them, just not posting them) and getting back to working out.

I hope you have a successful and inspired week. If you’re having a hard time, just remember there is a complete stranger somewhere on the East Coast of Australia that believes in you and thinks you’re fantastic.

Day 179

I woke up just after 6 am and thought I better stay up. It was kinda hard. I was tired and the allure of a soft bed was overwhelming. I pushed through with the help of my knitting needles. I knit my way through the first colour, then switched to the second colour. I think it’s working this time. Fingers crossed.

Then 9.30 am rolled around and it was time for me to log onto WoW for our Sunday mythic dungeons. We did well and we had fun. Before I knew it four hours had passed and that part of the day was over.

After lunch, hubby and I got to art-ing. Wifey wasn’t feeling well so she went back to bed. Hopefully she will join us on the next art day. I worked on the next Doodlewash – September 2019 prompt; 24. Books. I found a picture of a pile of books on Pinterest and used that as my reference. I enjoyed it.

When I bought my art supplies, I got hubby and wifey their own colouring books. They are books designed for adults with very intricate designs. Wifey has a unicorn book and hubby has an owl book. He really enjoyed the experience and had a hard time stopping. It was great to see him excited about it.

Hubby art-ing

Once we had finished art-ing, I played the guitar for a little bit, then I did my French practice. It was a lovely creativity stuffed rest day.

We finished the day with a M. Night Shyamalan movie marathon. We set out to watch; Unbreakable, Split and Glass. We only managed to watch two of the movies before it got too late.

This was a sensational Sunday. I hope you’re having a sensational one too (whatever it is you’re doing!)

Day 169

I woke up around 6.30 am and figured that was enough sleep. I started the day with some Good Mythical Morning episodes on Youtube. Then quickly moved on to French as the family started their day. I am doing the timed practice runs until next week when I start a new topic.

Once hubby had slipped away to work, I threw off my blanket and got ready to workout. I sound more excited about it than I actually was. In fact, I didn’t want to do it at all. Luckily working out is a habit that I enjoy, so I did it anyway. Wifey joined me and 30 minutes later we had finished another solid workout.

Then it was time to tackle the Doodlewash – September 2019 prompt; 17. Gemstone. I didn’t want to do this topic (this is sounding like the theme of the day) but I found a great ‘how to’ by the team at Tombow. I couldn’t get my brain around the wing detail so I went rogue and made my own wings.

Once I had put the pencils down I started work on the weekly Food Plan and guess what? I didn’t want to do that either. It always seems to take me too long to work out which ingredients can be used for multiple meals. I have included two vegetarian meals.

Beef and Chorizo Casserole : Monday
Healthier One-Pan Chicken Stroganoff : Tuesday
Vegetarian Chilli Beans : Wednesday
Shopping Night / Pizza : Thursday
Peking Noodles : Friday
Chicken Schnitzel + Caesar Salad (burgers) : Saturday
Spinach and Ricotta Zucchini Cannelloni : Sunday

The afternoon was a mix of housework, singing and too many projects floating around my brain.

Since I’ve started blogging I have had four ‘blog award’ nominations and while I’m thrilled that people find my blog inspirational, I’ve felt a little shy about posting the awards. I have started working on the process though. Thank you; Eilidh Horder, Mel @ Decor Craft Design, 3 Sisters Abroad.

One last thing before I sign off, my lovely wifey has started blogging. It will be a collection of random thoughts that will make you laugh, cry and think (or whatever direction she plans on taking it.)

Check it out at: >> Imawander <<

I hope your day has been filled with new beginnings, old friends and big smiles.

Day 168

I woke up before hubby left for work but the morning seems like it was years ago and I barely remember it. Once hubby had pounced off to work, it was time for a workout. Wifey joined me for today’s workout and we got through 30 minutes before I had even noticed.

With the inspiration of a good workout under my belt I attempted the Doodlewash – September 2019 prompt; 15. Stairs. I wanted to draw stairs with pot plants on them and set out to find a good reference photo. I used these stairs from 5 Great Staircase Decorating Ideas.

I added more colour to the pot plants and less colour to the walls. I was not happy with how it turned out but didn’t really know how to improve it. So I gave up on it. Hmph.

Doodlewash – September 2019 on Three Peas, One Pod

After a long lunch, a shower and a big heaping of depression, I thought I would attempt another of the Doodlewash prompts; 16. Eyes.

I really enjoyed the first time I drew eyes so I felt optimistic that I could produce something I would like. By the time I had finished drawing the eyes, I wanted to add a tear drop to the sketch to represent how I was feeling at the time. Round two of drawing was not a success.

By late afternoon I had given up on the day. I tried. That’s something.

You may wonder why I post art I’m not happy with or why I share my bad moods. This blog is about my journey. The ups and the downs. I think it’s important to remember that it is okay to have bad days, it’s okay to be disappointed, it’s okay to not be perfect. The important part is to keep trying. Tomorrow I will try again.

I hope your day has been filled with success and happiness.
