Day 184

It’s the evening and I’m tired. So tired I don’t remember when the day started. I know around 8.30 am it was about 30 degrees (86 degrees Fahrenheit) and we worked out. I am not looking forward to working out during Summer but I’m oh so proud of myself for doing it today. It was a pretty solid workout and I groaned a lot.

I did the Doodlewash – October 2019 prompt; 2. Snack. With it being such a warm day I went for a refreshing snack suited to a Summer-esque day; watermelon. I didn’t use a reference.

I also did the Inktober 2019 prompt; 3. Frozen. Again, I didn’t use a reference and just went for something casual, fun and summery.

Also on the productivity plate was knitting, singing and French. I dabbled in a little of all of them and it was a pretty enjoyable experience.

I finished the day by finishing the weekly meal plan. There’s a couple of repeats because they’re delicious and I want them again. Everyone is happy with that decision.

Healthy Beef Mince Thai Noodle Salad : Monday
Ricotta and Spinach Gnocchi Bake : Tuesday
Corn and Chorizo Zucchini Slice : Wednesday
Japanese Chicken Noodle Stir-fry : Thursday
Vegetarian Chilli Beans : Friday
Shopping / Chicken & Haloumi Burgers : Saturday
Lamb Meatball Tagine : Sunday

Thankfully the day is over and the countdown until bedtime has started. I’m hoping for 8 hours sleep tonight. Wish me luck.

I hope you’ve had a sunshine-filled day with a dash of watermelony goodness. (I just had to use the word watermelony, I’ve been saying it all day.) Your smile shines bright like the sun, you should do it more. =)

Day 182

5.30 am was the start of the day and I object. It was far too early to be awake but I knew there was no way I would get back to sleep. I sat. I stared. I contemplated Inktober and Doodlewash (but not long enough to realise I could have done them together.) Then I played WoW until about 9 am when i knew I had to be the day.

It was time for a workout and my body said, I OBJECT. (Today is proudly sponsored by the words… I object.) Everything was aching before I had even started, so I started anyways. There were almost tears but I fought on like a champ and we got through the work out in 24 minutes.

The first stop on the creative train was the Doodlewash – October 2019 prompt; 1. Onions. I found a picture of red onions to reference. I used watercolour pencils.

The next stop was the Inktober 2019 prompt; 1. Ring. I have already seen some aaaaamazing sketches for this prompt. Some people have used the prompt in ways I couldn’t even imagine. I was feeling intimidated by working with ink, so I went for something very simple. A ring of flowers… that may or may not be wreath like. It’s a ring, I swear.

The last stop on the sketching train was the Inktober prompt; 2. Mindless. I really didn’t know where to go with this prompt but had an urge to do a zombie. When I finally Googled ‘mindless zombie, I found there was a NPC in WoW with the same name. So, I did that.

The sketching took up a big chunk of the day. Once I was done, I was done. My early morning had caught up with me and I had to crawl back into bed for a nap. It sure was a lovely nap followed by an equally lovely dinner.

Japanese Chicken Noodle Stir-Fry

Tomorrow I’ll hopefully get caught up on this month’s challenges, get some guitar practice in and write a food plan for the upcoming week.

I hope you have had a delicious day filled with things to nourish your mind, body and soul.

Day 181

The day started at 7 am and by 8 am I was doing French. I finished the ‘restaurant’ topic and I’m going to spend the rest of the week doing timed practice runs. It was a pretty solid practice again. I finally feel I’m getting somewhere with French. I’m on a 100 day streak. Woo!

Hubby ambled off to work which marked the start of the day. I threw my blanket off and wifey and I got to working out. We did the workout in 26 minutes. We both groaned a lot. I like to call that the sound of workout. If i’m not making it, I’m just not pushing hard enough.

Being the first of the month a lot of art challenges are starting. I really want to participate in the Doodlwash October and Inktober events. Although, as I write this, I still haven’t finished the event from last month. If I can finish that off today, I’ll be happy.

I started with the Doodlewash – September 2019 prompt; 27. Phone. I referenced a retro phone I found on Pinterest.

All challenge drawings can be found here…
Doodlewash – September 2019 on Three Peas, One Pod

I skipped prompt 28 because I planned on using watercolour pencils and thought it would be best to do that last.

So then it was onto the prompt; 29. Bottle. I was looking at upcycled wine bottles for inspiration and saw some lovely vintage bottles. That led me to perfume bottles and I chose a beautiful pink perfume bottle for inspiration. I ended up taking a little inspiration from it then made it my own (something I could actually draw.)

Next I did the Doodlewash prompt; 30. Brush. There were so many different brushes that I could have chosen but I was drawn to a picture of mascara. It has to be one of my favourite beauty products. I sketched the ‘Lash Paradise‘ from the reference picture.

Then it was time for the last Doodlewash prompt; 28. Soap. I left this one til last because I was going to try to use watercolour pencils but I’d been having such a good day of normal pencils, I continued the trend, regrettably. The smoothness of watercolour would have helped this a lot. Oh well. The reference I used has a recipe for making soap. That seems pretty cool.

I got through the last four Doodlewash – September 2019 prompts by 4 pm. It felt like a good place to stop. Tomorrow will be another very full day of art. I will start work on Doodlewash – October and Inktober prompts.

Inktober 2019

It’s a new week for the Happy List (a list of 10 things that will make me feel happier if I do them). Arts and craft is strongly featured. I really just want to learn and do things that are good for me.

  1. Learn something new
  2. Paint
  3. Knit, 2 days
  4. Draw with Ink, 5 days
  5. Drawing Challenge, 5 days
  6. Write, 2 days
  7. Play guitar, 3 days
  8. Watch 1 world movie
  9. Massage legs, 2 days
  10. Drink 2 bottles of water, 5 days

If I could keep up today’s level of busy all week, that would be epic. I feel that I won’t be able to sustain it though. I’m tired already.

I hope your day has been filled with creativity, colour and cake.

Day 179

I woke up just after 6 am and thought I better stay up. It was kinda hard. I was tired and the allure of a soft bed was overwhelming. I pushed through with the help of my knitting needles. I knit my way through the first colour, then switched to the second colour. I think it’s working this time. Fingers crossed.

Then 9.30 am rolled around and it was time for me to log onto WoW for our Sunday mythic dungeons. We did well and we had fun. Before I knew it four hours had passed and that part of the day was over.

After lunch, hubby and I got to art-ing. Wifey wasn’t feeling well so she went back to bed. Hopefully she will join us on the next art day. I worked on the next Doodlewash – September 2019 prompt; 24. Books. I found a picture of a pile of books on Pinterest and used that as my reference. I enjoyed it.

All challenge drawings can be found here…

When I bought my art supplies, I got hubby and wifey their own colouring books. They are books designed for adults with very intricate designs. Wifey has a unicorn book and hubby has an owl book. He really enjoyed the experience and had a hard time stopping. It was great to see him excited about it.

Hubby art-ing

Once we had finished art-ing, I played the guitar for a little bit, then I did my French practice. It was a lovely creativity stuffed rest day.

We finished the day with a M. Night Shyamalan movie marathon. We set out to watch; Unbreakable, Split and Glass. We only managed to watch two of the movies before it got too late.

This was a sensational Sunday. I hope you’re having a sensational one too (whatever it is you’re doing!)

Day 178

I woke just after 7 am and I sat and stared. That continued until about 11 am. I knew I had to get anything done, so I started work on the Doodlewash – September 2019 prompt; 23. Bowl.

My first attempt at a set of bowls, with watercolour pencils, went terrible. The sketch was okay but I didn’t like the direction the colour went. At that point, I just wanted to give up but I’m already behind in this challenge, so giving up just wasn’t an option.

I then found a very simple reference photo of black and white bowls and created my version of it in black ink, with lead pencil shading.

I’ve been feeling a bit disappointed with my art the last couple of days and it’s starting to show in my overall mood. I was voice chatting with a friend in Discord and he said that I didn’t sound like myself. He was worried. I’ve been trying really hard to stay happy and positive this week, I guess it’s not working as well as I thought. I need sleep.

While waiting for dinner I started attempt number 4 on the fingerless gloves for hubby. Football season is now officially over, so I guess I really have 6 months until he’ll need them. Hopefully I can get them done long before then.

We had Veggie Burgers for dinner. YUM!

Tomorrow is going to be a fun day. I’ll start the morning with friends in WoW. Then the afternoon will be filled with arts and crafts with the family (this is the first time we are art-ing together.) The day will be finished with a movie marathon. I can’t wait.

I hope your day has been filled with yumminess, kindness and happiness. You look great in that outfit!

Happy weekend.

Day 177

I woke up just before hubby left for work and I was tired. All I wanted to do was crawl back into bed and sleep for another 6 hours. Instead, soon as hubby was out the door, I worked out. It was tough. My knee has really been hurting lately and I finally remembered why.

Back in 2013 hubby and I went on a cruise around New Zealand. One night, around 2 am, I drunkenly slipped on the deck and twisted my knee. The next day my knee was outrageously sore and I spent 4 weeks on crutches. That’s the knee that is now giving me trouble during my workouts. Ugh.

After the workout I got straight into a French lesson. It was another strong practice. I’m loving these restaurant words. I was also able to use a new phrase I’d learned when chatting with a friend yesterday. He asked if I would like a coffee, to which I replied; Je voudrais un cafe.

Next I attempted the Doodlewash – September 2019 prompt; 22. Children. I found a cute picture of two boys reading a book. I started the sketch but there were too many things I didn’t know how to do. It looks different to the photo but I think it’s worth finishing. I put this sketch on the ‘finish at a later time’ pile.

So knowing I wouldn’t be able to finish that (after about 3 hours of sketching), I moved on to another ‘child’ drawing.

The next attempt was a solo child sitting on the beach. Working with watercolour pencils is hard and time consuming. I spent about 3 hours working on this one. I started soft and added layer after layer. There are some things I like, there are some things I don’t. I’m looking forward to my next attempt.

It was nice spending the whole day doing arts. There will definitely be more days like this in the future. I hope your day was bright and enjoyable.

Day 176

I woke up just before 7 am and curled up on the sofa, almost ready to start my day. With the fuel of a yummy hot coffee, I started my French lessons. I am still working my way through the ‘restaurant’ level. Some more words are sticking, some are still a little confusing or I haven’t really got the spelling down yet.

I worked on the weekly food plan. There’s only one vegetarian meal this week. On Sunday we’re going to have an arts and craft afternoon, followed by a movie night, so it’s a much more casual Sunday dinner than normal. It’s also a great way to use the leftover vegetarian chilli from last week. I’m such a huge fan of leftovers and turning them into something new and wonderful.

Steak + Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms : Monday
Pepperoni and Potato Frittata : Tuesday
Japanese Chicken Noodle Stir-Fry : Wednesday
Shopping Day / Salmon & Cream Cheese Crostini : Thursday
Chicken Sang Choy Bow : Friday
Veggie Burger + Chips : Saturday
Hot Dogs /w Vegetarian Chilli Beans : Sunday

I had managed to get that all done before hubby left for work. Once he had disappeared into the mist, I got to working out. Wifey was still sleeping, so it was a solo mission today. I got through it in about 25 minutes, with every last part of me aching. I pushed hard.

Once that was done, I settled down to finish the shopping list and get started on art. I flicked to the World Movie channel on TV and found the Norwegian movie; ‘Ragnarok‘. While it was a little predictable, it was really well made. Two hours later and it was time to art.

I did the Doodlewash – September 2019 prompt; 21. Coins. While searching for some inspiration I saw a coin-operated laundry and decided to try it. I loved the colour palette. My watercolour pencil art is much bolder than the original.

I spent the afternoon doodling. Nothing in particular and nothing worth sharing, just some general practice with ink and lead. I topped the day off with guitar and singing. My finger tips got super sensitive pretty quickly. I’m trying to learn some new chords and cheat an F chord (no bar chords for this hand). We’ll see how that turns out.

I feel pretty content with the day. I kept busy and I have a smile on my face. I hope you’re having a fantastic week filled with creativity. Good luck if you’re learning something new. You’ll get it in no time.

Day 175

I woke up on time and felt excited about the day. I spoiled myself with some casual games and coffee and waited for hubby to scurry off to work. Once he is out of the house, that seems to be the official start of my day.

It took too long to get to working out but eventually it happened and I pushed myself pretty hard. I feel like those two weeks of sickness really set me back when it comes to working out. Things feel harder than they should and my body is just tired. Bleh.

Next it was time to tackle the Doodlewash – September 2019 prompt; 20. Bricks. (I know I missed one and I’ll share it after this.) I felt a bit disappointed that my first watercolour adventure would be bricks.

When I searched for some inspiration, I found so many amazing watercolour bricks on gorgeous buildings. Just wow!!! I didn’t want to copy somebody else’s painting so I found a reference picture of a building front with bricks.

Before today I had not used watercolour pencils. I wasn’t sure how to use them. I coloured a little, then added a little water. I kept repeating the process until I had something I was okay with. I then finished the line work with greyscale ink pens.

Working with watercolour pencil is so interesting. The colours are a lot different from the original colour after you add the water. It took more water than I expected. I need to add more layers of colour in my next attempt.

As I mentioned I had skipped posting about the Doodlewash – September 2019 prompt; 19. Tea. I sketched this on normal paper and coloured it in with watercolour pencils. I didn’t use water.

I finished the day with some lazy French. I worked through some of the ‘Restaurant’ level and got a lot of it right but mainly because they’re very close to English words. More practice, more practice.

The day was mildly productive. I really want to fit more things in but I waste a lot of time thinking. If life changing was a job (and it kinda is), I’d be fired. Maybe I should keep that in mind when I set out on tomorrows tasks.

I hope your day has been enjoyable. You’re a wonderful person, with a fantastic smile.

Day 170

I woke just before 7 am and started the day. After a yummy coffee I dived into French. It was a terrible practice. I had my worst timed run. After getting only 3 answers right, the timer ran out. Ouch. I continued to struggle through the timed levels for about 20 minutes.

Hubby waddled off to work and we got to working out, reluctantly. I’ve really been struggling to want to do things the last few days. I just want to put my feet up and get my lazy on. Of course I won’t do that but… I really, really want to. Wifey and I got through the workout in just over 30 minutes. A solid run.

Then it was time for the Doodlewash – September 2019 prompt; 18. Spoons. I found a photo of spoons on Pinterest to reference. I don’t like using yellow pencils, although I love the colour, so I changed the yellow to orange.

Doodlewash – September 2019 on Three Peas, One Pod

The afternoon was a lovely mix of creatives. I did a little singing and guitar. I spent some time writing, just a little more work on a short story. Then I finally wrote an ‘About Me’ for this blog. It’s pretty basic. I have stories to tell but that isn’t the place for them.

” Hi! I’m Tilly Collins. Thanks for joining me on my life changing journey to 40.

I haven’t been very good to myself over the years. I have suffered from depression since I was young and that has overshadowed every decision I have made. I made poor choices regarding my health, not caring if I lived or died. I wasn’t motivated, I wasn’t creative, I wasn’t passionate about life. I was just existing for 37 years.

It took me a couple of years to form a life changing plan and it is a work in progress. To keep myself accountable I created this blog. The goal; to post every day and have something to post about. It’s an honest record of my learning, growing and changing.

I currently live on the East Coast of Australia with my husband (‘hubby’). We were married in September 2006 after two years of dating. We don’t have children but we do have an adorable little dog (‘Homer’.) We are also in a relationship with a girl (‘wifey’) from the USA. She has been part of our lives since 2012 and spends a couple of months living with us, twice a year.

The future will be filled with indulging in arts, crafts, photography, writing, music, house renovations and learning to be the best person I can be.

I hope my journey will inspire and encourage you in some way. We’re all in this together.”

“You never fail until you stop trying” Albert Einstein

Hubby has one more day at work, so that means one more day of work for me too. I don’t think I’ll get round to painting but I will definitely make up for the lack of work in that area when my watercolours arrive.

The big thing left to do on the to do list is attempt number four at fingerless gloves for hubby. If I can just get the colour transition right, I could get them finished really quick. Fingers crossed.

I hope you’ve had a fulfilling day.

Day 169

I woke up around 6.30 am and figured that was enough sleep. I started the day with some Good Mythical Morning episodes on Youtube. Then quickly moved on to French as the family started their day. I am doing the timed practice runs until next week when I start a new topic.

Once hubby had slipped away to work, I threw off my blanket and got ready to workout. I sound more excited about it than I actually was. In fact, I didn’t want to do it at all. Luckily working out is a habit that I enjoy, so I did it anyway. Wifey joined me and 30 minutes later we had finished another solid workout.

Then it was time to tackle the Doodlewash – September 2019 prompt; 17. Gemstone. I didn’t want to do this topic (this is sounding like the theme of the day) but I found a great ‘how to’ by the team at Tombow. I couldn’t get my brain around the wing detail so I went rogue and made my own wings.

All challenge drawings can be found here…
Doodlewash – September 2019 on Three Peas, One Pod

Once I had put the pencils down I started work on the weekly Food Plan and guess what? I didn’t want to do that either. It always seems to take me too long to work out which ingredients can be used for multiple meals. I have included two vegetarian meals.

Beef and Chorizo Casserole : Monday
Healthier One-Pan Chicken Stroganoff : Tuesday
Vegetarian Chilli Beans : Wednesday
Shopping Night / Pizza : Thursday
Peking Noodles : Friday
Chicken Schnitzel + Caesar Salad (burgers) : Saturday
Spinach and Ricotta Zucchini Cannelloni : Sunday

The afternoon was a mix of housework, singing and too many projects floating around my brain.

Since I’ve started blogging I have had four ‘blog award’ nominations and while I’m thrilled that people find my blog inspirational, I’ve felt a little shy about posting the awards. I have started working on the process though. Thank you; Eilidh Horder, Mel @ Decor Craft Design, 3 Sisters Abroad.

One last thing before I sign off, my lovely wifey has started blogging. It will be a collection of random thoughts that will make you laugh, cry and think (or whatever direction she plans on taking it.)

Check it out at: >> Imawander <<

I hope your day has been filled with new beginnings, old friends and big smiles.
